Ok, I've decided to convert an old heavy steel Peugot into an E-bike, using flat bars, and a newer 7s group/freewheel. It's gonna be fast too. A 48v Crystalyte 5303.
My concern.
I have a good grabbing set of center pull brakes. (Mafac Racers). They work really well with the newer Canti-lever pads I have.
However, with the old Chrome steel rims, would it be a good idea to get new alloy rims? I have been told they brake better when it is raining. However, the old steel rims have slotted brake surfaces, like slotted rotors on a car. Doesn't this help a little with braking?
I would hate to get the motor laced up to the old steel rim, only to end up having to replace the rims. I love these old Rigida rims, the real Chrome is so shiney. :)
