Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - A Clyde with a new Ride!

I got a new ride this past weekend. I went to to Performance looking to get a few adjustments on the MTB and ended up with a new bike and a promise to the SO that I would size the herd down.:innocent:
I Soooooooooo took advantage of the 15% off sale this past weekend, and got 10% back in Performance points, plus the fact it was already on "sale"!!!

Here she is in all her glory!:D
GT GT-R full carbon frame and fork, SRAM Rival Grouppo, Ritchie components, LOOK Keo Classics, and Kyserum wheels to round out the package so to speak. I got a nice shakedown ride in this morning and this thing rides like butter!!! The SRAM double-tap shifters work awesome and come second nature once ya get used to them. SO far I LOVE this bike, I may make one change to it and get a stem with a little rise to it, but other than that, ride the wheels off it!!!!:love:

Look....no carbon weave! From my understanding the frame is vacuum formed and the carbon strands are suspended in the resin. The whole frame starts as a liquid!

Indeed - I generally feel it's too OCP to immediately remove a dork disc when you get a new bike, but when it's that big, it's exceptionally...well, what it's named. :)

nice ride! Although I dislike dork-disks, on new bikes I'd wait for the first 1000 miles or the majority of your cables have settled and been properly adjusted.

Zactly! I've read threads where riders lose the spokes cause the rear derailleur dives into the wheel. Read on just the other day, guy put 100 miles or so. 50 miles on a new ride means nothing! Wait till the cables settle and you do some climbing to find out where and how the limit screws are set and react. Nice wheels, hate to see them missing a few spokes!:o

Yes, and the derailuer will pull away from the spokes due to spring tension, even if the cable is loose.

Not everything goes as planned. Screws vibrate loose, mechanics thread chains wrong, derailleurs dive into the spokes, stuff happens! If it was a perfect world, you wouldn't read so many "my rear derailleur dove into my wheel" threads!

OK OK enough with the dork disk...Its already a done deal. TBH, Im not really concerned about it! :)

I never understood why they make the disks to darn big and black. Why they just don't make them clear so they would not look as bad. Nice bike none the less.

Yeah, clear is good but they eventually yellow from the UV rays and general crap they get on them. My friend still has his on and I was noticing that it was yellow and nasty looking.:notamused:

How about carbon, or a carbon/kevlar weave; dont make it so honkin big and put a OCP brand name on it!:thumb:

I had one bike that had one punched out of steel, with the manufacturers name punched out, Nice thing about the name SEKINE they could punch that out, without leaving little bits hanging everywhere. The dork disk actually looked like it belonged on the bike. I am sure they could make one out of aluminum as well, I think the idea is to make it big enough to do the job, but not so big that it's ugly.

My 1983 road bike still has the dork disk...its aluminum and relatively small. But, then, I only recently removed the pedal reflectors. Except for a bottom bracket rebuild recently, replacement of the rear derailleur in '87, the seat...same brand, different color, and, of course, tires, its basically original. I'm slow to change if it gives no problems, no matter how dorky it may look. But, then, I'm pretty slow on the bike these days.
