OK - Just checking in Ride 12 was today! I came back form Minnesota laste night where my new client is. Very depresssing to be working again! Good to have a job - but hoped to be without a client for a little while. Oh well - so today I got out this afternoon - tried to find a ride I could do fairly close to my apartment. I rode out by the river... but it was a bit sad to be without the bike group. I have really been getting used to those rides with the bike groups. I urge you guys/gals(?) - if anyone has not joined a group - or checked the web for group rides they are awesome. For me - since I am usually last - it's a ton of work (calories burned) and a ton of learning and growing.

So - off I went by myself - rode slow - about 14.8 miles 1 hr 13 minutes. Hard to ride when I do not know what is up ahead- does the trail turn? Part of it was gravel (yuck). Anyway - tomorrow's ride promises to be much more fun - The Birthday Ride...and I found someone to join me. A man (Just a friend) who is a really fast rider - and has a ton of patience. He helped out with the group ride I went on (Ride #11) and said he would be glad to come on my big Saturday Birthday ride. So I am aiming to ride at least my age - or maybe longer.... (45 miles..shhhhhhh...). And then Sunday - there's a party of sorts at a bar for a riding club here (A Pick up your bike clothes party - where I guess club members pick up stuff they ordered) so I wil meet some more bikers..and see what rides the club offers.

OK - Gang - Be safe and have some great riding this weekend. Oh weight loss tip of the day: Drink a ton of Water...with lots of lemon, too.

Well happy Bday. We're just about the same age. My Bday was 24 of May and I'ma 45 too! Sounds like a I Love Lucy rerun doesn't it!:D

Congrats on ride #12, and have fun on the birthday ride. I plan on doing the same, riding my age on my next birthday.

The club thing can be a huge help - I've been a sea kayaker for several years and credit a lot of what I know (and have been able to pass on to others) to the club. I'm assuming cycling is basically the same way, but I only went on "real" ride #2 tonight - not counting a few trips around the neighborhood to see if I still remembered how to do it. I'll get myself a little more prepared but plan on joining a group soon. Happy B-Day!

riding alone has its benefits as well. you can choose you path on the fly. stop for a bit have coffee continue.
ohh a park go explore.

dont think of it a noone to ride with.. but as a event to improve your skills the next time you are with the group.

Yep, don't get too down, any riding opportunity is a great one! Others have already pointed out the benefits of it, you can basically do what you want, go where you want, go at your own pace, if you want to practice sprinting go ahead, if you want to be slow, fine, if you want to rest, fine too, if you want to practice control of the bike by going around a couple of posts in the parking lot or following the lines to practice keeping a straight line...and not upset any of the other group riders by doing it.

Well you get the picture. Riding with someone is great, but just getting to go out is great too :)

First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! My bday is 28 June, will be 53 then oh boy. Always enjoy your posts, keep us posted on your birthday ride.

I love my group. Without their mentoring, pushing, and general support I'm not so sure that I would have accomplished the weight loss and biking skills I enjoy today. As I am very social, it is also another venue for me to meet people and enjoy good conversation.

Keep up the good work,
Keith

Congrats on ride 12! I got out this morning for only ride number 3 of the year (I was away for the first 5 months of the year). Last year I put about 1000 miles in but have still never ridden with anyone else.

Riding alone can be fun. So can riding with others, but at times that reminds me of Sartre's comment that "hell is other people." I'm glad you are having fun both solo and with others.
