Hi, I see lots of on the bike powerbars, hammer bars ect. Being sold at LBS or R.E.I ect. Does anyone on the forums cook or have a good recipe for a healthy bar that is low sugar and we could bake at home?

Thanks cooks!

I tried the third recipe on this website: http://www.roadcycler.com/2007/10/screw-powerbar-make-your-own-energy-bar/ It was pretty good and easy to make. I would add some cinnamon next time. The first recipe is basically no-bake cookies. I'm going to try those tomorrow and see how they work for my 70 miler.

I buy mine at Costco, they have an excellent selection.

They usually come out to $1 - $1.50 each so not worth my time to make them.

I remember having quite a few good home-made bars, but the one I recently posted on my website is my all-time favorite:

A lot of my homemade bars were too soft and/or sticky, but these ones worked well.

My wife's homemade cookies work quite well. Pack a few and away I go.

Does she add a protein-based ingredient in them?

Ty all for replys. I will try to make some soon. I saw a recipe in the Wall Street Journal last week that used sushi ( Sp?) rice, soy, and protein mix. It looked interesting.
