O.K. so i'm a "newbie" around here, so i'm still trying to get the hang of this. Well it's wednesday morning 6/18 and i'm making my way up Palm Dr. As I approch Campus Dr. I was going to take a left and take Campus Dr. over to my job site. I looked and right as I go to make my move a black S.U.V. blasts through the stop sign and didn't even hit the brakes. When I see this ****** bag is goin strait and then parks I go after him. I very politely asked him why he didn't stop at the sign. He said "well I was but ya know" My reply "aahh No I don't know because you missed me by 3 feet,or were you to busy looking at your cell phone" Let's just say it took everything I have to just let this P.O.S. walk away without GREAT BODILY INJURY. What pissed me off more than anything was his attitude.Like he didn't have a care in the world. My question is should I have just beat this A-hole down like he was trying to kill me or should I have called the Sherriff. I wanted to kill this guy.

Citizens arrest for running the stop sign? Without another witness it'd be he-said-she-said though.
Really, letting him go was the best thing to do (even though giving him a thorough beating would feel oh so good).

As you ride, in time, there will be many close calls, it's just something that you have to accept and be glad they were just close calls, it's just the nature of the thing. Many times we can remember the situation and try to avoid it next ride sorta like rider experience, "adding one more to the book" so to speak.

If you're usual mode of operation is to beat and kill people for minor traffic violations that didn't result in anyone injured... Sure. Whatever works for you.

I was riding between Suisun and Fairfield yesterday, on a flat road with tons of visibility and no shoulders. Some thoughtful soul, going the other way, decided to pass a long string of cars just as he got to where I was. That was the first time I screamed like a B movie queen and started looking at diving right. I really had no time to juke anyway and he wound up missing me by about a foot. I saw his face as he went by. He looked afraid like he knew I was there and it was a close call. All the rest of the ride from Rodeo to Vacaville was fine.

Running a stop sign regardless of speed is 22450CVC. (I've gotten this ticket before..) Infraction only. Sheriff can't and most certainly wont do squat unless they see it.
I completely sympathize with you. There have been times that the only thing I could think of is punching a hole in the persons head. Right now.. You're pissed, but you'll get over it. Say you had tooled his arse up.. then what? you'd feel good at the moment (assuming you win). But!! You would be facing assault and battery charges which the Sheriff will cite you for. So.. you are in good shape right now. You're alive and in once piece, with no legal action pending!! I call it a win. Yes we'd all like to dismantle retarded drivers but we can't.. because then we'd share the same reputation as dirtbag motorcycle gangs, and that wont help our public image any.
Good job on the self restraint. Its easy to say let it go.. but 10x harder to do so, and trust me, I know all about that. Like Pete said.. Fuggetaboutit!!

What is the phone number to report a drunk driver? Or just 911. Guy sounds blitzed to drive like that. If the cops will not even take a report then. in CA, call the local Air Quality Management District (AQMD) pollution hot-line and report the driver for a smoking tail-pipe. The stress he gets from getting a formal letter asking him to have his car checked is the least he deserves.

Not that it's relevant, but I feel the need to point out that only people who don't wave at you deserve the imfamous title of A-hole. Other people who nearly kill you have to be referred to with other terms.

Should not have confronted him, but keyed "SLOW DOWN" on his car when he left :)
Well, it doesn't say "slow down" on that picture :). Looks funny, anyway :)
OP. There's not much you can do. I had a close call in Stanford last week, when the guy was trying to make right turn w/o stopping on red light. The problem was that he "didn't see" about 7 cyclists (we were coming back from Valley Ride). We yelled at him, he finally woke up and saw us. But it was a bit too close and we all had to brake hard. No casualties, just adrenalin.
You may, though, write down his license plate and report him to Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition. They collect this information and then (as the number of reports on particular vehicle reaches some point) they contact Sheriff's Department and (hopefully) somebody from the department pays that person a visit.
There are also couple of officers on this forum who are also the riders. They may suggest something else. But, w/o any witnesses you don't have anythings but "he said, she said" thing. Sorry.
I'm glad you OK, though. Keep on riding!

Those are letters, no numbers. In Russian. It's a bit hard to explain, but I'll try. There's a automaker in Russia called "GAZ". Nothing to do with gasoline, it's an abbreviation from "Gorkovskiy Avtomobilniy Zavod" (Gorkov Auto Plant).
Anyway, over the course of years people nicknamed those cars as "gazon". That's written on that car. I found it funny because it's written on the side of Nissan Murano (or similar European model) :)

What do those letters and numbers mean?
It says GAZON, which in Russian means lawn. The guy parked on someone's lawn

Now calling in his vehicle to the smog police, thats dirty .........I love it,I carry a digital camera with me and I snapped a couple of shots of him and his ride. As far as keying up his ride NOT COOL,besides I get more satisfaction out of a good confrontation. Besides most of the time when these idiots get out of their cars, that HUGE SET OF BA%%S they had while piloting a 4 ton killing machine, has dissappered and guess what i'll be waiting.

Nah, not even close. Actually, bigregard01 has better point. I didn't notice that car is parked on the lawn. Both explanations correct, though :)

Post 'em up! I'm sure the tons of Stanford cyclists (and skaters) would appreciate a heads up.
