Touring - options?

I've been looking for a 54 cm touring frame for a while, haven't found one. My requirements: canti bosses, double eyelets on front and rear forks -- I"m not asking for the moon here. How much room is there to finagle solutions to less-than-ideal frames? I have a Univega gran turismo frame right now which I think is perfect -- except that it's 52 cm and even w/ a tall stem (Nitto Dirt Drop) I'm still not comfortable on it. I think the 54 cm size in a strong steel frame is the most important thing. After that, I'd like to be able to put on a smallish front rack and a rear rack and Honjo fenders. And I'm a stickler for canti brakes as I've got Tektro dual pivot side pulls now but the hills around here are so steep that I just don't feel those brakes have enough braking power compared to canti's. So if i can find a decent frame w/ single eyelets front and back and canti brakes, would that be enough to mount the front rack and the fenders? thanks!

some racks, Tubus comes to mind, will let you mount fenders to the rack after mounting the rack.

Have you considered something like the surly long haul, or cross check, can't recall the Novara and fuji touring bike models, but they'd fit the bill as well.

I'm looking for more of a light tourer, something that would handle a 3 day trip so I'm really not thinking LHT. maybe Fuji.

You might definitely look at the cross check then, its about as versatile a bike as the come, and definitely capable of doing a three day cruise.

Why not the long haul trucker? I'm about to order a green one in a month because I can get a good deal on it.

Check out the Fuji/Windsor. If you can do some minor ass'y and adjustments this is a great deal. They do have a 54cm in stock.
