Kids take to downtown traffic on ‘Kidical Mass’ ride
"It’s like Critical Mass without the attitude or the age."Or the unpleasant patchouli oil and nasty hippy body odor funk! Rate of helmet usage among those present was wonderful to witness!
Those kids on the pedibikes were "cute as buttons" paddling along next to their moms!
This is an excellent and heartening find, Randya. Sweet account to read. :thumb: :)

It's been happening every month for 5 months down in Eugene, OR, apparently with great success.

That is a great idea! I have got to get something like this going here in Los Angeles.
We take our little Spitfire out on our bikes every weekend and talk to other parents who want to do the same. An event like this would be great way to show other folks it can be done safely.
As an aside I think kids naturally love bike as they understand that these are wheels and freedom they don't have to wait for until they are older. My daughter at two already loves her tricycle and points out every cyclist she sees as it's an adult she can relate to. And I see the same reaction in the smiles of the children I pass on my commute as they walk to school in the mornings. Kids know that bikes are fun and further that adults who ride bikes are fun too.

Owen...
Our next critical mass will be a very special one as it has been dedicated to the memory of 6 year old Owen Richel... I expect that many children will be in attendance and mine will be among them to honour the memory of a little boy who loved to ride but tragically, succumbed to leukemia. :(
It could very well be our first Kidical Mass.

What perfect timing. Our local bike/ped advisory committee was discussing a "kidical mass" the other night. I have some ideas for things we could do here in Durham, but I'd love to get some input/advice from Ms. Koch, the Portland organizer, or whoever organizes in Eugene. Does anyone have email addresses or contact info for these folks or could put me in touch with them somehow?
PM me please!
