So, what was with the goofy weather in the South Bay today? We were doing one of our last hard rides before the Death ride, and up at the top of Hamilton a storm starts blowing in. As we descend, lots of lightning in the distance. All the way up Sierra (which takes me about an hour), lots of lightning and we could start hearing the thunder. It was hot all day, but we did not get rained on. This was more like a NJ shore summer day than what you expect around here.

Not sure if the lightning started any fires, but it sure looked like it was hitting the ground.

Reminds me of summers back in the midwest.. Or those 80degree mornings in Texas on the gulf coast.. Kind of cool, although the way stuff catches on fire around here anymore, I can do without the fancy light show.

Saturday, checked out the new REI in Stockton and the thermometer in the car read 105F and at the same time "raindrops keep fallin' on my head". Weird day.

Today it's just smoky and muggy. Uck!

I was driving back from Sac to Davis today(trip to Mike's bikes and OSF) and the smoke was soo thick that it looked like fog! Apparently, it was caused by around 600 fires caused by lightning strikes. Good think I got my ride in early before the winds picked up. It was still a little smoky though since we were heading out the the Solano Lake area and back.

Reminds me of summers back in the midwest.

I really do miss those midwest thunderstorms where the big thunderheads would move in and dump the rain with the accompaniment of thunder and lightning. I saw the lightning too and thought it was a bit strange. Too bad those clouds didn't bring any water. I was up for an early morning ride today and was greeted by the wonderful smell of smoke. Fortunately, it seemed to blow away during the ride.
