Living Car Free - What about time?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I guess what I'm saying is that a cyclist has more of a feeling of control since no amount of effort you put into it will help you with mass transportation delays or car traffic.
That is so true! This is exactly the reason why car and mass transportation options are so incredibly frustrating. It is a rare thing to be stuck in traffic on a bike, especially if you are a bit flexible in your treatment of traffic rules.

Oh that's true. Although if you aren't going balls-out every day (which I assume most people don't) then there's an extra margin of effort you can apply if you want to make the same time against a stronger-than-usual headwind. I guess what I'm saying is that a cyclist has more of a feeling of control since no amount of effort you put into it will help you with mass transportation delays or car traffic.
Bingo! also one of the reasons when I am forced to drive long distances I look for alternate routes on US highways versus the interstates. I got my fill one week when I had to drive ~200 mile to Charleston,SC. It should have been a 4 hour or so drive. Due to some very incompetent driving by some JAM's it ended up taking almost 9 hours...the extra 5 mostly being spent sitting at a dead stop on an interstate highway 5 miles from the nearest exit.
