Just set up my new Nashbar mag trainer last night. Using road bike 700x25 Specialized Armadillo

At cadance of about 90, after about 10 minutes, with trainer at maximum resistance, in middle ring of triple and middle gear of cassette I get a distinct rubber smell. I am using this in the home family room.

My guess is that the tension is too LOW on the wheel, and I have slippage. Anyone else ever experience this?

I will experiment tomorrow pm and see if greater tension assists or hurts. I have it about two cranks after the resistance wheel touches the tire.

There are no rubber marks on the mag spinner.`

i smell rubber when i ride on mine too, I think its normal though because the tire just heats up.

I've never experienced the burning rubber smell but I have noticed slippage. When the tire is slipping I adjust the tension a little bit. I've never noticed black marks on the roller.
I think your problem is with the tension.
Also make sure your tire is properly inflated. A soft tire will slip.

Thanks. The tire is always inflated to 120 psi. Will adjust the tension.

Do you wear a condom while riding?

If so, the smell is probably from all the friction at the saddle.
