It is currently on sale this week at Big 5 and sells on Amazon for ~ $10. It gets great reviews (currently 4.5 of 5 stars, 57 reviewers).

I was wondering if this could be modified for use on a bike at night? Is the light strong enough for that?

It won't be bright enough to see by. Check out the electronics forum for cheap and bright light ideas.

I definitely don't need a light to see by. Do people actually use lights so that they can see where they're going while on a bike? Maybe if you live out in the country you need such a light. Anyway, I bought one of these Garrity lights but not for the bike. It's top quality. Crank it up once and the energy is stored for later use. I don't see an easy way to mount it though.

Traditionally that's one way of categorizing (front) bike lights: those that make you visible to other road users vs. those that actually show you were you're going. MTBers for example need all the light they can carry in the forest. So it makes perfect sense to try and find out which OP is looking for.
