given that you're doing "extreme riding" I don't understand why "XTREME!" packaging would bother you. good luck in your search. google :best deodorant for athletes or something.

arm & hammer advance. works for me. i really like how it's scentless, so you still smell like a normal human being, without the BO.

Arm and Hammer Ultra Max Invisible Solid (its in a yellow stick). It has Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex Glycine in it and its the ONLY thing that works for me. Its amazing stuff....so much so that when I see it in a store, I buy at least 8-10 sticks. I feel a little strange in the checkout, but hey.....having deodorant that works is important to me! The bonus is that its always one of the less expensive sticks-

Mitchum works for me - and it was about the only thing that did - other than vinegar. I don't use anti-perspirants before rides though.

Try Axe Products. Also, get the "Man-Spray". Its a body spray deodorant, and when you sweat, it smells like the spray. This inaddition to the anti-perspirant, works good.

I also used the rocks. They don't keep me from sweating but I have zero BO. Even with antiperspirants I could never go for a ride and then do any sort of normal activity afterwards without showering first, which meant I had to take it easy on the commute or risky being stinky by noon. Since I started using the rocks I can push myself in the mornings and not have to worry. I would definitely try one out and see if it works for you.

Yea it works pretty good on BO. But the sweating part, well thats just what our body does, let it. It cools the body down and helps release toxins out of the body through the largest organ of our body, our skin.

I use these too. I haven't used "anti-perspirants" for years. Before the crystal thingy, I used Mennen deoderant, but I'm trying to get away from as many chemicals as I can, including fragrances.

I use plain aluminium chlorohydrate in a water/alcohol base. No perfume added. Just the anti-perspirant. One application keeps me dry and odourless for 3-4 days, even with daily riding in hot weather.

+1 on the Mitchum. It comes in unscented too, if you don't want to smell like deo.

Certain Dry. Use it before bed and it clogs your pores and you will produce less sweat. I sweat like crazy and this is the only stuff that has ever worked for me. Then just put a normal antiperspirants on in the morning.

Haven't used them in 40 years. They just make you smell worse. Seems to be some sort of feedback loop. Bag Balm has a certain cachet, though. Any of the lineaments are good, too. I mean . . . you're standing next to a person of the appropriate sex at the office and you catch a whiff of Atomic Balm. Wouldn't you want to know more?

+2 (or3) for deodorant stone...don't want to rub any unnecessary chemicals on my body, especially close to glands that could absorb those chemicals

Uhm, no... They make you NOT smell. That's the whole idea. And they work just fine.

Don't wear antiperspirants on rides. It prevents you from sweating and you overheat easier.

i use the stuff that contains mineral salts .. either from the raw stone .. to a 'liquid' roll-on ...

works good for the smell issue ... but still lets your body sweat as it needs to ...

You have a bacterial problem. A lot of people have it. The smell is from bacteria feeding on your sweat juices. You either have it or you don't. I don't know what to recommend for you.

I just use my wife's unscented Secret deodorant.

I maybe different but I find that after long cycling rides I don't smell. I have asked people "Do I smell?" I don't smell. Sometimes, I don't take a shower til the following day. The only thing I have after a long ride is salt deposits on my skin and shorts - white streaks.

The anti-persperants like Old Spice seem to make me sweat more. I read that the gook in them clogs up the cloth in your clothes so the underarm area can't breathe. It's also what causes the yellow stains in shirts.

I just use Speed Stick Ocean Surf now which smells kinda like soap I guess.

I've been making my own deodorant lately out of essential oils, witch hazel and rubbing alcohol. Works too, but some days I have to put it on more than once if I'm having a particularly funky day.

Even trimming gets rid of a lot of bacteria hide outs if shaving would be too much of a jump..

Well then you have nothing to worry about right now. Just wait until you reach the age when your testosterone floods your body and you start growing hair. Might want to have your pops talk to you about the birds and the bee's.

True. I think people who don't sweat enough and shower too frequently are the ones who stink. Sweat cleans you from the inside out. The stuff that the bacteria feeds on gets diluted with sufficient sweating. Frequent washing with soap compromises your body's acid mantle which is our natural defense against bacteria growing on our skin.

Ride more and bathe less. I use a deodorant, but the aluminum or any antiperspirant is bad news. I used to have one of the stones but I heard something about health concerns from those too.

I've also heard that shaving the armpits works well... basically the hair adds to the surface area on which the bacteria live. Shaving reduces that surface area. I haven't shaved yet, only trim for now....

I like the Arm & Hammer gel. My wife, who is paranoid about that stuff, really likes Mitchum.

If you want to experiment, I found it works to try a new deodorant before you run out of your old stuff. Put one under your left arm, the other under your right. The next day, or after a ride, take a smell of each :)

This is sold in other places as Crystal Stick, does absolutely nothing to stop sweat, but really does a number on BO.
Lasts forever, too. I'm using the same stick I bought a year ago, less than half gone. No deposits on your clothes either.

I use Tom's of Maine unscented natural deodorant. I avoid anything with aluminum in it - that shiznit causes Alzheimer's (http://www.ehso.com/ehshome/alzheimers.htm).

No, aluminium doesn't. It barely even enters your body beyond the skin where you apply it. The whole point of the aluminium is to enter your sweat glands and stay there. And it does. When the effect wears off, you sweat the aluminium back out, along with everything else.

Yeah but (normal) men don't shave their pits.

Hmmm...The Google sez you're right. I'll be damned. I'll probably keep using the natural stuff, though, just to make sure my Massachusetts Liberal license isn't revoked.

I use the Toms of Maine Lemon Grass or wood spice. I too do not like the idea of aluminum clogging my pours. It doesn't last the entire day if I sweat a lot, so sometimes I re-apply. After a bike ride I just rinse off in the shower.

I used to use degree aerosol. It worked great, but it stained up all my white and off white shirts. Those stains are irraversable. I could not get deodorant stains out trying soaking them in vinegar, baking soda, bleach, alcohol, oxyclean, or any other home remedies.
