Fifty Plus (50+) - +1 for the Topeak Road Morph

I know this has been written before, but I just wanted to sing the praises of the Topeak Road Morph w/guage frame pump.

I have recommended this pump to many people, but had never used one myself. I finally got one, put it on my bike Friday and had two flats today. The pump got my tires up to 120 psi with ease. It's easy to use, too.

If I have a complaint, it's the hanger system. Speedlever has mentioned this in Bengeboy's thread on Mt. St. Helens. You are somewhat limited to placement, unless you want to give up a water bottle. They recommend running it under the top tube, but if you have a swoopy-framed bike like my Giant, that won't work. I used their twist ties and have it roughly where my old pump was (the old pump would work with the bottle cage). Speedlever says there is a new hanger coming out. I will look for it.

But, the pump is great.

I have no problems on my bikes. Each has its own Road Morph G and two bottle cages.

I've seen other guys mount them on the seatstays. You just have to get out of the mindset that "frame pump" requires mounting on the inside of the front triangle.

Shucks. If I'd noticed this thread first, I would have posted here instead of the OT post in BB's thread. Here's the relevant info:

The Topeak WB mount is not on their website. It just so happens that they make the mount for another pump and it works with the RoadMorphG series. Call Topeak Customer Service to order the special mount. Should run about $5 plus shipping.

Mine should be waiting for me when I get back from vacation. I'm anxious to try it out (and get my 2nd water bottle on the bike)

FWIW, I tried a Blackburn mount, but it wasn't the right size for the RoadMorph and although the velcro strap would tighten down to hold it, the WB cage seemed to interfere with using it.

It mounts with zipties behind the seatube on the LHT.

It will also mount to one set of WB brazeons, but then you lose the WB.

I'd be interested to know if the one you are getting is something different.

What you linked to is the mount that came with my last RoadMorphG (which differs from my first RoadMorph mount). I could use it to mount to the top tube, but due to paint concerns, did not want to ziptie there. The mount that is coming is supposed to piggyback to a waterbottle mount.

This would be helpful. I had the same issue with my Blackburn pump bracket that piggybacked with the WB cage. I was about to try to modify it to hold the Morph tighter. I am a bit concerned about the crank hitting the pump with the WB mount, but it it didn't hit the Blackburn, it shouldn't hit the morph.

Okay, but this pump is making me feel pretty stupid -- the only "instructions" are some vague pictures. Is there something you have to do attachment wise, to get it to work on Schrader valves? Mine won't attach at all.

Unscrew the valve head and reverse the two components inside. That should do it.

I have the mini morph and this is mounted on Boreas. The mount means that I cannot use a second water bottle- but that's what camelbacks are for. Or for carrying the minimorph when I am on another bike.

Problem Solved, for me. My old pump was actually a MTB pump, with a thicker barrrel, therefore, the new Topeak wouldn't fit tight, even using the velcro strap. I simply glued small pieces of bar tape inside the clamp (WHY do I have two 5 inch pieces of old bar tape in my tool box?) and voila! Fits tight. And I still have two water bottles. The tolerances are very tight, but it appears it will work great. It's a little hard to see in the picture, but you will understand because WE'RE 50+ers!

The locking lever works backwards from other pumps I've used. Up to lock, down to release.
