Does anyone know of a commonly-accepted listing of typical/average flying 200 times by Category?
I'm a Cat 5 guy -- I've raced a decent number of "unofficial" track events, but no USAC stuff that would merit/command an upgrade. I did my first timed 200 yesterday, and want to get a feeling for where I stand, as compared to real beginning trackies.
It can be hard to say, exactly, as there are a lot of factors outside of just the rider category. Not all velodromes are equal - some are "faster" than others. The quality of the surface, the degree of the banking, the length of the track, whether it's indoors or outdoors, elevation, etc. all effect the speed of the riders.
At my local velodrome (Kissena) the averages seem to be 13-16 seconds for Cats 4/5, and 12-14 seconds for Cats 1/2/3. The fastest time recorded in the last 8 years or so (at least, in the records I checked) was 11.91 seconds.
The world record is held by Theo Boss at the Moscow velodrome (often considered the fast velodrome for the 200m) at 9.77 seconds.
~13 for 4s
~12.2 for 3s
<12 for 2s
would be my guess for san diego. You can probably just look up results from a recent race though.

Only done three track days, so I am a real beginner. I am a road cat 4, and not a very good one.
Southside speedway: 15.5 or so (big headwind up to the finish).
Langley speedway: 14.5 or so.
Both times were the best of the B riders, or about mid-pack overall, in that I would have been the slowest A rider.
I'd love to see other peoples times as benchmarks to aim at :) I hope to do a low 14s at the last Go Fast, Turn Left.
