I am in the process of creating a shortlist of possible of bikes to test ride and consider for my new ride.

At the moment I am looking at an Orbea Gavia (about $2500 aud) has 105 carbon forks and rear looks like a good package.

http://www.orbea.co.uk/default.asp?type=bike&PKID=10

The other bike is a Cytek. Frame is 7005 Alloy with all ultegra and FSA cranks, carbon forks and Ritchey Pro DS wheels for $2000 aud.

http://www.beasleycycles.com.au/cytec.htm

I am looking to spend between $2000 and $2500 aussie dollars.

Is there anything else that anyone could suggest? I am pretty much open to any suggestions.

Can I suggest riding as many bikes as possible, then building one from bits and pieces bought internationally through the net (or Ebay).

I now have 3 bikes doing this; one second hand bike bought off ebay (from the US), and 2 pieced together from places like www.totalcycling.com and fondriest.com/us.

Each bike cost me WELL under what my LBS could do them for (even their cost price). We just don't get value for money over here due to the low quantity of high end road bikes sold every year. Our market is just too small.

The only other thing I would suggest is to look at the American made complete bikes, as due to the relative strength of the dollar, they are becoming fairly good value (Giant for instance). This also makes my first suggestion even better value.

Just to give you an example, the second hand bike I purchased was a Casati Challenge with Ultegra and Kysrium SSC SL's for ~$1000US. Incidentally, my LBS had Casati Clippers (one below Challenge, doesn't have the Scandium frame) on 'blowout' for $4000AUD with Centaur.

Happy hunting. :)
