but I've decided Paranoia Agent, Paprika, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke(questionable) are pretty good. Especially the Paprika movie. Just thought I'd let you know.

Not at the moment, but Densha Otoko is a real show that is really funny.

Pretty much every Miyazaki movie (Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, etc) is enjoyable by people who dislike anime AKA 'violent porn comics'

Exactly.

I don't really like anime because well, I don't know I just think things like Inuyasha and Naruto are dumb and others come by as boring.(no offense to people who like those shows)

Full Metal Alchemist is good (I hear). Old Tenchi Muyo isn't bad either, and neither is Inuyasha.
Akira was one of the best movies I've ever seen, and it's all anime.

However, I'm nowhere near an avid anime watcher, nor do I think I'll be. Too busy being on my bike :) Plus, at least in my school, being with some of those guys makes you not want to be into it.

Imagine being in a concert that's a part of an anime convention, and the first smell that you sense is that of countless days of shower-fasting due to anime marathons (and maybe school work)...A room full of many antisocialities is an interesting experience, though 8-bit music is pretty awesome.

I think a lot of anime is "deeper" than many American cartoons, so I enjoy watching it.

I'm currently watching Library War, which is about the government restricting freedom of speech so much that libraries need their own military power. Veeeery interesting. But! The episodes are still being banged out as we speak, so bleh. Shall have to wait for next week's episode. Also watching Vampire Knight, which is a lot more shallow, but hey, a girl's gotta have entertainment and drool over cute anime vampires). Same problem though, I only get to watch it at least a couple of hours after the Japanese people do, and I don't usually like waiting a whole darn week for the next episode (hurrah DVDs). Ah well.

*curls up to sleep until next week*

only anime i've seen that i like are ghost in the shell (the series is better than the movies. a bit corny at times but good), cowboy bebop (excellent), and neon genesis evangelion (more disturbing than the beach invasion on saving private ryan).

Appleseed is a great ani. as are many of the ones listed before. I caught one called Ultrafiend a while ago. More towards the "violent deamon porn" end but prety intense none-the-less. You can still see the impact the atomic bombing had on the Japanese people in these anies.

+1 for Appleseed. The old movie and the 2 newer CG movies.

Also, anything by Makoto Shinkai is good stuff (Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and 5 Centimeters per Second).

Unfortunately 2 of the biggest US anime distributors are having problems. ADV is having issues (alot of the stuff they licensed is now under Funimation) and Geneon pulled out of the US market last year (which means we're not getting the 2nd half of Black Lagoon anytime soon). :(

And thanks for the heads up on Paprika... I'm gonna see if i can find the DVD on my next trip to Best Buy. :p

I think most anime is pretty stupid, but I liked Cowboy Bebop and a lot of the Rouroni Kenshin/Samurai X stuff was really really good (mainly the middle episodes). 2 of the Samurai X movies were fantastic too - names of 'em escape me at the moment.

Has anyone watched Trigun? That and Cowboy Bebop are personal favorites. My sister and an ex-girlfriend were both really into anime, those are the series that left an impression. I also remember Serial Experiments Lain, but just because it was really weird.

And...on a tangent, how about that TV show Firefly? I just finished watching the episodes over at hulu.com, thought it was very Cowboy Bebop-esque.

oh yeah - forgot about trigun. That one was pretty cool too - it reminded me of Kenshin though, set in outer space.

I'm a huge fan of the show Firefly. Josh Whedon (sp?) rocks. I really wish he'd been able to continue the show.

All of Miyazaki’s work, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind , Howl’s Moving Castle and Imaginary Flying Machines over and over and over. I just saw him and an advance screening of his Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea at the Studio Ghibli Museum. The Ghibli is also the only place you can see the many short films Miyazaki did only for the Museum.

A few of my other favorites

Grave of the Fireflies...for me a masterpiece

Ayakashi….late night watching is a real scare pleasure (as is Perfect Blue)

The Girl who Leapt through Time….bliss, melancholy and hope

Aria….53 episodes of reflective gentleness and discovery. I was sorry to see it end this year.

Yamazaki’s The Adventures of the Little Prince…..the first series I remember watching on nickelodeon when I was very young

Fuzzbox…if you liked The Cat Returns you’ll like Kondo’s The Whisper of the Heart. It’s where The Cat Returns starts.
