Mountain Biking - Anyone ever heard of...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
the NEXT bicycle? The reason I'm asking is because I bought one just the other day and being a newbie myself was hoping yall could tell me some things about this particular bike.

The NEXT is an inexpensive department store bike similar in quality to a HUFFY or RoadMaster. However, ride it until it dies and enjoy yourself. It's an inexpensive way to introduce yourself to the sport.
Just realize that it's not going to hold up to a lot of abuse and hard riding. It's designed more as a bike that "looks" like a mountain bike. What I mean by that is that the frame material is usually cheap steel and heavy. The components are no-name and bottom of the line. These usually require a lot of adjusting. Literally everything is bottom of the line. However, it is usually a sub $200 bike.
With that said, it's still a bike and a cheap bike is better than the couch. So, go ride, have fun and welcome to the sport and these here forums.

Hey thanks for your input but the bike does have an aluminum frame and it is Shimano equipped. But you are right, it is an inexpensive bike at $110.

funny thing about "shimano equiped" Shimano makes some Very high end stuff, XTR for example. However the same company makes some of the lowest of the low quality stuff.

cjc,
I didn't mean to poo poo your bike. I think it's great that you got it and are riding. That's all that really matters. As long as you're having fun, don't worry about the bike.
Now, being a bit of the bike snob that I am. (You get that way after nearly 20 years of riding) I will tell you that you should ride that bike until it dies and then get a new bike. I've worked in bike shops since I was 14, and it'll cost you more to fix it than it will to buy another bike.
My suggestion would be to ride the NEXT until it dies and then IF (big IF) you enjoy the sport, then consider getting a quality "bike shop" bike. Decent bikes start at about $300, but consider a bike in the $500 range for regular off-road riding.
Good Luck

Nice bike for $75. You get what U pay 4...
Oh well... that's what keeps WalMart in business I guess.....
Sonny Daze- don't be such a snob. Sheesh, they're just trying to get into the sport. A "real" bike is one with wheels, and crankarms, and a chain that moves forward.
