Folding Bikes - Hyde Park Meet July 6th, London

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

First call for the second meeting of the Hyde Park Folding Bicycle Society in Hyde Park London (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=422514), on Sunday 6th July at about ten-thirty. Some of the founding life members will be here in a moment to confirm the time and place, and berate me for being ill last time.
All welcome. It helps to bring a bicycle, although this doesn't appear to be compulsory. There may be buns and pootling, or an all out grudge match between 'George Dawes' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZg9pwjznD8) - Snafu's Downtube IX FS with Orange Paint, that hasn't actually arrived yet, and 'Black Bart' (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=433020) - Mulleady's hopped-up side-winding dang-nasty mother-biting racing model, with black paint and funny gears.
See ya there for the shoot-out, hipsters, anti-biotics permitting. No swimming. May contain traces of nuts.

What exactly is a 'trace of a nut?'
Is it an 'impression of a loony' :twitchy:

Look forwards to seeing you all there. Could you make sure your TP146's are properly signed at the bottom of page 14, to avoid having to go through scrutineering again? I know paperwork is a pain, but we all have to do it.
Thanks.

I've gone on holiday by accident. Sunbathing by the THames in Berkshire watching the river flow.
Deffo going to HP, but g/f has snaffled HH. . So she's coming too as she refuses to release her death grip on the bike.
Downtube delayed, will have to steal something to get there so please don't chain up your steeds.
No tern will be left unstoned. Hyde Park II is GO!

My dad told me the other day that my Great-grandfather held (still holds?) the speed record for riding a penny-farthing between Cheltenham and Gloucester in something like 1905. How cool is that?

Are we meeting regardless of the forecat weather? Rain or shine, no fairweather friends amongst the foldernisti?
QE gate again? Snafu might even have her tangoed Downtube FS by then!
Would any of you be on for a ride along the Regent's park canal route after tea in HP and a circuit around there? Suggestions welcome.

I have taken a VOW OF SILENCE to atone for going on holiday so will be communicating with gestures only. No Downtube, so I've unearthed a SECRET FOLDING WEAPON for Sunday. It's a sort of metallic green.
G/f will be on Hammerhead. Regents canal sounds cool, or a tootle down the Embankment.
See you there. Coming up from Hampshire so hoping traffic ain't bad. We've got a couple of those cheap PMR walkie squawkies (http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/391140/BINATONE-LATITUDE-150-TW) - we'll whack them on. 'Race Control' on channel 7/27? Roger! <bleep>

That's unfortunate I wanted to see the orange one! Why didn't you opt for another one to be sent out? I can vouch the FS has a great frame Snafu.

Hi, is this sunday on or not, I'm confused. The weather has been fine in london today, bit of a sprinkle this morning, but sunny from mid-morning on. The roads in hyde park are closed to cars this weekend, so it will be a cycling paradise. Next sunday, 13 July is the london bikeathon, which is half of the reason i went out today looking for a bike to buy and by the merest fluke came upon a lightly used Mezzo 9 speed at a reasonably price. The other half of the reason was to be at queen elizabeth gates at 10.30 tomorrow !!! Well, whatever, I'll be there tomorrow, getting some miles in and trying to work out how to stop the seat post slipping down.

Mild breeze, warm with occasional shower. We were loose in Hyde Park!
Nigelme - Downtube
Diode100 - Mezzo
As the only attendee of both Hyde Park meets, I claim the Yellow Jersey. :speedy:

I also awoke late, the sun was up so decided to get out and see what occurred. There was the occasional shower but generally pleasant riding conditions. I got to try Diodes Mezzo which I was impressed with. It feels a lot more sturdy than it looks, to me.

Excellent! Was blasted and soaked in a Force 6 gale in Portsmouth this am, then thundered and lightninged in Oxford this afternoon. Jeepers. Yellow Jerseys to Nigelme and Diode100. The Yellow Sou'wester to me, and nuts to everything else.

We need 1 yellow jersey and 1 wooden spoon. The yellow jersey for Nigelme with an increidble 100% record and a wooden spoon for Snafu for 9% lol.
All agree to show next week reagrdless of the weather, excepting personal commitments or unforeseen events as Snafu proposes?

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition; And gentlemen in England now-a-bed Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here

Sorry about that, i was having a pensive moment. It was a very enjoyable morning on sunday, and indifferent weather as it was, it was still great fun. I had never seen, let alone ridden, a DownTube before Nigelme turned up on his, and after a short spin, i have to say it would be a great bike for using around town. I'm looking forward to next months run, that would be what 3rd August ?

But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!
Or even three by next month.

Hmm, ok. I'll be doing the London Bikeathon (Chelsea to Petersham leg & Back) this coming sunday (along with Gary Linneker & about 6,000 others), but notwithstanding that, are we not set for 1st sunday in the month on a rolling basis, which would make the August meet on the 3rd ?

Snafu what has you gallavanting from Portsmouth to Oxford all in one day?!!!
It's a long story involving a tryst, two cats, and buying a house in the Wrong Place.
Lines Written in Hyde Park (Chris Sykes (http://www.cpsykes.co.uk/poetry.htm))
This moment lives without you and with me.
It is peculiar to feel that I am alive
and it is not possible for me to see
you. How is it that separate we can live?
How is it that that betrayal we can share?
Me, I'm sitting in the middle of Hyde Park.
A man is kicking dust on a dappled grey mare,
the light around him is already growing dark
even as the horse hooves kick high and free.
So all your moments without me still exist.
Your life goes on separate from me.
In so ordinary a world of dust and mist,
if thought could be the very touch of love
I think this moment fully in the instant that it dies.
To you I've offered all I have to give.
I pray the thought will reach you where you lie.

Jolly good turn-out today chaps. Well done. Big welcome to Little Pixel, principe_azul etc, and the other Life Members who made today such a jolly occasion.
I am ashamed to admit I lost the 100 metre sprint up the Mall towards Buckingham Palace, but principe-azul was kind enough to allow me to overtake on the last leg back toward Hyde Park.
The others will be along in a mo' with more tales of Derring-Do.
