I would also like to know if track hubs are included.

I decided not to go through with it as the dog bone drilling bothers me. I would hate to start building and find out I have the wrong length spokes. Back to keeping an eye on ebay.

They are available in "std" round drilling also, just specify when you order.

Ok I want in but I am holding my deposit until I know what we are paying for these things...last post by the OP says price is up $15...but $15 from what? Original post says he "thinks" we can do it for $100 if we get 15 sets but we are over that number of deposits. I am ready with a deposit once I know how much I am paying here.
Sorry if I am coming off as a prick...just want some details.

to calculate the length with dogbone is not rocket science.
For a 28h and 3X, use 3.16 as a factor instead of 3.

Hi
Just came across this thread and would like to get in on this deal if it is not too late. I want 24/28 Shimano 10. How do I go about it?
Thanks

All -
I'm still working on it; it's tough because the time zone difference only allows one e-mail a day, and only weekdays at that, and the Kinlin thing is confusing everything.
If we can't manage $100 a set I will refund the money.
Personally, I'd still be in for $115. Its hard to get good light Campy hubs that aren't 32h without spending many $$s.
Would the KinLin rims also be coming via Formula or is it a separate thing? I realise people would like to get hubs, rims (and maybe even built) at the same time, but maybe it would be worth a separate Group Buy to keep things simple? I'm quite happy for rims to be a separate thing and deal with spokes and building on my own.

Thanks for your hard work on this project. Just to let you know, if it does turn out that they're 115, I'm still in but may have to drop down from 3 sets to 2 sets of hubs (maybe not; I'll have to see when the price is finalized). In any case, I'm still committed for 2 sets. And if you happen to get a price for track hubs, I still may be interested. Which ever model everyone else may want but I'd lean towards the High Flange Fixed/Fixed model(TH52/50 I believe). Track hubs aren't a priority though so a deal on the road hubs would be more than sufficient. Again, thanks for all the leg work.

Kinlin will be a separate deal; but might be shipped at the same time from Taiwan in order to minimize costs.

Thanks for all of the hard work.
When you get done with this group buy, give these guys a call and see what kind of wheel discounts you can get...

Kinlin (from Taiwan) is a no-go unless we get 100 pcs per model - and a different hole drilling is a different model. There's no way.
I'll try from Alchemy next. Fortunately (for Formula people) this frees up the inter-twined nature of the shipping.

Miche Racing hubs are really nice and come in many drillings. They weigh 460g for the set, which is the same as my Deore LX rear hubs. They cost about 70euros or so, but can be hard to find. They are reportedly really nice; the Confrerie de 650b uses them in their cost no object tourer.

how about freewheel bikes for parts? alchemy is also a good choice....
Hi guys. Noob here. I'm an ex-IM triathlete, now a sponsered marathon runner who loves biking. I commute 16 miles to work and ride many nights and weekends when weather is nice.
I am thinking about building a few sets of wheels, and will probably jump in for two sets.
I'm thinking one wheelset with Kinlin 30mm clincher. Spoke count 20/24, 20/28, or 24/28. I'm very light, always under 150. I haven't raced in a few years, but do the occasional "spirited" club ride.
I'm also thinking about keeping my eyes open for a good deal on some carbon rims and building a set of those.
Any opinions on spoke count, etc. From the posts in this thread I figure on regular drilling rather than dog-bone. Good plan?
Thanks,
Walt
Sounds good to me. I'll probably end up commuting on mine and doubt I'll have any problems provided I take my time with the building. I weigh marginally more than you and have had no problems with a similar wheelset (28/28, 25mm rims) over the past two years for almost the exact riding you describe. I think the only reason to get dogbone drilling is if you plan to use big bladed spokes (i.e. not CX-Ray/Aerolite, but the wider ones).
If your roads are particularly bad, go 24/28, otherwise I'd think you should be just fine on 20/24 with rims that deep (assuming appropriate spokes and a good build).

submitting in a day or two for what? the hubs or the rims?
Out of curiosity, did you factor in customs charges and brokerage into the price?

For the hubs....as he mentioned there will be no rims as a part of this.
Is it still possible to get in on this group buy?
I am interested, but a couple questions.
Option for a wheelset still exist?
I am fairly big 240lbs is the 28 spoke stought enough?
How do these compate to Ultegra Hubs?
PM me on how to do the deal.
Thanks,
Greg

I'm getting some 'extras' but I wouldn't run 24/28 at 240 lbs, unless the rims were incredibly stiff.

Depends. Depends on how badly you need them and how the ElJ holiday fund is doing. ;) :thumb:
Good to hear they are ordered. To clarify for all of the people that will come to this thread in the future and say, "hey can I still order some?" ...THE ORDER HAS BEEN PLACED. It appears ElJ might have some extra that you might be able to get off of him, but try a pm direct to him first.

I received word today that the 28H rear hubs will be available in key-hole only. Apologies; if this bothers someone/anyone, we can work something out.
AS TO THE 'EXTRA' hubs... for those of you late to the buy...
I ordered some extras, primarily to sell them. I did not keep good records as to which hubs were spoken for and which hubs are 'mine'. I am waiting until they come in to ship out what's spoken for, and see what's left.
I will let you all know what is 'leftover' after the hubs are shipped.

Apologies for the no-updates; I'll subscribe to this thread; sorry.
...and I still have no update. I sent an e-mail out tonight, I usually get a response the next day.
I missed the cutoff, and in case I don't score a set of the spares, I bought a set of DA hubs from my LBS this week. I got a pretty good deal and another LBS owner I know who rides for CTS said he thinks the DA hubs are great. So I bought a 24f/28r set to build my first set of wheels.
I called Jeremy at Alchemy this week and tentatively settled on 27mm rims and Cx-ray spokes. I figured that would be a good comprimise between weight and aero. I only weigh 150, but ride on a lot of very hilly and sometimes rough roads. What do you guys think of the spokes? Worth the extra 2 buck each? I had a wheelset with them built for my 650 bike, but have no way of knowing if the had any benefit. You guys seem pretty knowlegable on this stuff. I could get the shallow rims and save 50 gms each, but don't know what is best.
Any input will be appreciated.
Walt

I think the 27's are a good value. If I were lacing them up for racing, etc., I'd spend the extra money for the CX-Rays. If you're not racing, the extra 0.2 MPH (or not even) probably isn't worth the money.
Hell, it probably isn't worth it even for racing. But that's how I justify it.
