Anyone here signed up for this brutal sufferfest ? I am down to ride but if the air quality remains this bad I may have to cry off like a wheezy boy with a note from matron.

A report here of a previous year by one of my old team mates and Low Key Hillclimb 2007 star.

Anyone from Clovis area have reports on air quality ? I really want to do this ride but I have worries about what 12 hours plus of strenuous excercise will do to your lungs in a smoky environment. I am fit but It certainly goes against all the advice the air board is giving out especially for Asthma sufferers like myself.
Looks like I am going to have to pull out :(
Air quality looks like it will be worse tomorrow, so I will probably bail on this one. I was looking forward to it, and it looks like an awesome ride so I guess I'll check it out next year. I hope this air gets better before Deathride, this really sucks.
Oh, btw the AQI index is at "Unhealthy" in the 180s tomorrow.

Climb to Kasier results: 261 starters, 193 finishers, 68 DNF's, 37 DNS. The unhealthy air was definitely a factor in the number of DNF's this year, but once above 5000' the air cleared up considerably.
Why wasn't the ride cancelled like the Western States 100? Because we didn't have fire trucks blocking the course. The nearest fire was 60 miles away in Mariposa County. We gave deferals to next year's ride to those who asked before registration opened Friday.
One collision between a rider and a boat trailer - truck hauling trailer tried to pass a rider on a curve. Road rash and torn shorts, but the rider finished.
From those who rode- one of the best supported rides ever!
