Hi, does anyone know anything about Cannondale "trade in" offers?

I saw on the back of the newest Cycle Sport magazine an offer from Cannondale - trade in your old frame for a new frame (apparently without cost!)

Does anyone know about this (especially someone in Ontario Canada?)

My LBS told me about this when I ordered my R600 last week. He said that whenever you want a to upgrade bikes you can trade in your old Cannondale. I think he said you'd get like 20% of your bikes original value, or 20% off the new bike, or something like that.

Strange...

I think my friend's magazine might be January 2004? (It features Lance on the cover)

His magazine is probably shipped from Britain though, since I noticed the Cannondale trade in program has a British phone number on the back...back I'm wondering if there's a North American version of the program.

Cannondale has had this program for years, it's just not something that's well advertised. You trade in an old frame for credit on a new one. I was looking at a CAAD7 last year and my CAAD3 would have been worth a couple of hundred bucks. Not a bad deal, easy to get rid of an old frame. Talk to your lbs about it, or email Cannondale. I don't know the specifics.

Use to be you could trade any frame, even a kids frame from a dumpster or something from a thrift store, and get a hefty discount on selected framesets. Some dealers did not even require a frame in trade, because it was something they just had to dispose of. Some dealers tried to insist on a good Cdale frame trade but that was just rubbish, and they were trying to make extra money selling the trade ins. If you have a decent frame, that you can peddle yourself, you do even better.

I talked to my LBS here in Vancouver, BC last year about this and they told me that it would be about $25%. However, it is difficult to know what the frame price in CAD is because it is not well advertised. When I was in their shop, I was looking to trade up to a 2003 CAAD5 R600 frame. Well, they told me the price was $1400 for the frame, but I saw the bike on sale in the same shop for $1699. It didn't make sense to me that the frame was so expensive and the complete bike was only a few hundred bucks more. Also, if the frame is on sale at the time you get you do your exchange, they won't honour the trade-in (at least my lbs wouldn't).

If you come across any additional/more accurate info on this, please pass it my way. I'm also interested in this trade in program.

I'll probably check my bike shop

Unless it's a killer deal, I probably won't trade in my CAAD7 frame :)

This is from Cycling Plus magazine over in the UK.

"Take any frame (it doesn't have to be a cannondale)
to an authorised Cannondale dealer, and you are entitled to 25%
discount on selected Cannondale framesets."
end quote.

That seems pretty definitive.

Quintana Roo also offers trade in, I think the price they give for an 2003 r1000 double was about $850

Please let me know what your LBS says and what the prices are if you can. I still want to do the trade-in, but I have a feeling my LBS is screwing me over. I'd be nice to have a comparison (only 1 chain of shops in Vancouver is an "authorized Cannondale Dealer" and they are the only one I can go to for this deal).

Thanks.
