I was hoping someone could suggest a route or two from the Dufferin / Ossington and Bloor area to York University. I am comfortable riding in traffic, though quieter streets are preferred.

Thanks!

I think Prospect Cemetary (just east of Caladonia), is a great route to take you from St. Clair to Eglinton. Between Eglinton and Wilson I can't offer any advice but if you consult a cycling map, just above Wilson at Jane a bike path begins which will take you right to York University.

Map is available at:

Hey ... thanks to both of you. I have several routes that will get me to the 401, but was hoping for some advice on the best way to cross it without getting squished. The TO cycling map suggests Jane, but most of the routes on bikely.com use Keele, so that's the way I'm going to go. Will probably take the Humber River trail back to Bloor.

The only thing I am worried about is the 401. Deep breath ... off I go.

Trigger, if you're taking the Humber River Trail (a good choice); there's quite a good safe route that'll take you through a quiet tunnel/bridge under the 401.

Notice that the Humber River Trail ends just above Lawrence. From the end of the trail, continue eastbound on Church St. until you hit Wendel. Take Wendel north, which will take you under the 401 to Wilson.

Take Wilson 2 blocks east to Jethro. If you feel unconfortable riding on Wilson, take the side walk for that short distance, as there are practically no pedestrians there. Take Jethro north and continue to follow the dotted lines until you get to York University.

For several years I took a similar route to get to my work from High Park area.

Hey thanks! I'll check out that route as well.

I took a route that took me across the 401 via Keele, which was much, much less scary than I had built up in my mind. I took the sidewalk this time, but I will likely take the car lanes next time. Up Keele to Sheppard and over to Sentinel. I am quite comfy in traffic, and the trip was actually quite pleasant. And, I can beat the TTC to campus by 15 minutes or so!
