Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I do not know, but thanks to you my Mother will be very displeased at her almost 50 yr old daughter as she considers ... ponders ... trying it.

HEY! WTH! Early morning, no one around, escalator up by the pillows/sheets area .... vacant and up to snuff for a little experiment .....

Either that or perhaps I can coerce one of the niece's into trying it ....

And either way - I will be at fault, once again I shall state that I am an upstanding cardholder of the BlackSheep's club!!!

You better do it before you turn 50 then.

Up escalator and down escalator. Simply works just like the gears on your bike.

Sigh ... So much to do in 20 freakin days.

There's no magic. The up escalator is going one direction, the down escalator is going the other. The part of her body resting on one rail is pulled in its direction of travel, the part of her body resting on the other rail is pulled in the opposite direction, causing her to turn. As she turns, different parts of her body rest on the rails, continuing the turn. Think of her as an idler gear between two other gears.

The handrails are moving in opposite directions. Imagine a large beach ball placed there instead, as the rail on the left goes up pulling the beach ball along with it, the rail on the right is pulling in the opposite direction at the same time. As long as both rails are moving at the same speed the ball will spin in place.

Some people are really easily entertained. Especially moms who fail at making a viral video.

You people with your fancy explanations. I call magic.

Just like a neutral steer on a tank or other tracked vehicle, or a zero turning radius riding lawn mower. ;) Simple physics, opposing motion of the handrails makes her spin. ;)

Physics, schmysics. She obviously grew up in a circus. You should see her carry a dozen plates on the end of dowel rods down that thing.

Sorry, I was just looking at her boobs...what was the question?

It would appear that a properly shaped butt can't hurt.

I was expecting her to have a bike balanced on one of the moving hand rails, using it like a very narrow set of rollers or a treadmill.

Agreed.. it's voodoo.

That is actually the best example of Reaganomics I have ever seen. She must be a economist. Seems a bit big to be a spinner though.

Physics.

Cyclic opposing forces cause her to spin in the direction they are applied.

That would have sucked if her hair had gotten caught in the belt.

sucked for her...not so much for the video maker.

You want to know whats gonna be awesome? When some idiot tries this, gets hurt, and sues the escalator company due to lack of safety considerations during design.

...and then some middle-manager, after "enough" time has passed, responds with a letter saying "You're an idiot," and posts it all over the company intranet...

Yeah, I can imagine what the guard rails will look like. Guard rails to protect you from the guard rails, actually.

All they'd have to do is make a bizarre pictogram that depicts such spinning, put a line through it, and post it near the escalators.

Well, I for one would like to see the "don't do this" sign that would be posted to prevent idiots like this attempting acts such as above again.

On second thought. Let 'em go. they look young enough not to have bred yet. Chlorine in the gene-pool. :)

It's a good thing for them that they only had a scooter on hand.
