Considering there aren't any pumps, I'm curious

The pumps are actually off to the left.

OK. What's the unit of measure? What does 29.4 buy?

The photo was taken here in Canada, so it buys a litre.

Whoa. That's a deal. How come there's not a huge line?

Well, it's in a VERY out of the way place. :D

I give up. I know generally where you live but there aren't places around that are captive?

Why so cheap?

I actually don't know. I was cycling by on Saturday, saw it, and had to take a photo.

The only thing I can think is that .... the place closed down some time ago, or that they are missing the 1 in front of the 29, or that it is some sort of ploy to attract customers.

Probably missing the 1 in front.

In SW Ontario, stations with old-school 3-digit signs (such as the one in the photo) tend to leave out the 1 and report only the three digits behind it. For example, the signs would read '06.2' when gas was $1.062/litre (weren't those the days?).

These signs are getting rarer now, and tend to be found mostly at independent gas stations in remote rural areas.
