For discs I like EBC. They have a choice of compounds to choose from. For all around riding I like the gold series because it offers a lot of power, works well in wet and/or muddy conditions and last longer. You may get a bit more squeel from the gold do to it's higher metal content. For DH I use red and some times green (when I run out of the red). The red have the most stoping power but they wear very quickly.

What DBD said.
I've been running EBC gold in my Hayes disc brakes and have O complaints. EBC is the ONLY pad I'll use now.

Promax brakes are the worst that I have ever delt with. They are next to impossible to center and as soon as you think that you might have them close, they get out of whack again.
I've got EBC pads in my Avid discs.

When I Installed The Avids It Took Longer To Get The Promax Off Than To Intall And Adjust The Avids.they Were 8" And The 6"avids Got Better Power Already.you Right About That Never Stay Adjusted Part But They Did Introduce Me To Discs And They Were Better Tan V Brakes In The Mud.i Remember On My Old Bike Trying To Stop When Wet And Not Having Any Brakes At All
