Cyclocross - first aluminum frame - want a Specialized Tricross

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm dying to get my hands on this bike. I test-rode the expert and loved it. My concern is mainly that I'm a big guy. I'm 6'4" and about 10 pounds shy of 300 pounds. My current bike is a 15 year old steel-frame mountain bike which is indestructible. I don't plan to treat this bike the same way (no jumping off curbs or ignoring potholes, etc) but I also dont want to be riding on virgin blacktop and have the frame crumple under me after a couple of years of use. Should I be worried?

If I were you I'd be more worried about the wheels than the frame. Most bikes come with low spoke counts, but I'd want 36 or at minimum 32. Also, high volume tires with moderate PSI can do a lot to protect the wheels and frame from jolts.
Ok that's good to know. :) Thanks!
