I am assuming bike computers work just as fine on folders ( a dahonn d7 ) after you enter in the wheel size? I am thinking to get one for two reason:

1) So I know when it is time to oil the chain i.e every 200 miles ?
2) To give me some motivation to bike faster when I see my speed is too low...

How is this one:

Or should I spend a few dollars more and get this one which has temperature?

I would go for a wireless so it does interfere with the fold.

If you have a D7 and use a wired bike computer the wire will fit ok by fit fixing the sensor to the fork, then running the cable up to the bars by twisting it around the front brake cable (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cyclecomputer-installation.html) and leaving slack by the hinge. You may need some extra cable ties. Wireless computers are much easier to fit, but slightly harder to set up and need an extra battery in the front wheel sensor. Thy can be affected by interference from LED bike lights, or adjacent nuclear power stations.

Chain maintenance is often done according to weather or road conditions - if you use your bike in the rain, or in dusty conditions, it will need more maintenance.

Bike computers are fun, a basic 8 function one is ok, if you want to use one for serious training there are advanced models which check your pace and almost everything else. Many people, me included, find a basic 8 function one does all they need and isn't too expensive to replace when worthless crackheads steal it off your bike outside the 7-11.

Where's the best place to mount a computer so it doesn't interfere with the fold? Mounting a computer on handlebars would preclude folding the bike. On the handlebar post?

Unless someone else with a Curve answers this, I'm afraid you're going to have to figure it out for yourself; fold up your bike and take a look. On my Downtube Mini, I had mine on the handlebar, 1" to the left of the stem, and it got bashed every time I folded the bike. I moved it to the other side of the stem, and now it's fine.

On my D7 I left the mounting bracket slightly loose, so I could twist it out of the way. Wasn't needed as the bars rotate through 90 degrees for the fold. Another option is to unclip the poot and stick it in your pocket, although I can imagine the clip could get damaged on some bikes. Some people put them on the stem.

I did find the Cateye Strada wireless at buildyourbike on Ebay for $34.14.

I just get the wired 8 function computer at walmart. I believe it is $9.32. It works well.

I don't like wireless. I always get interference. If the battery is weak you lose the signal. Have to change the batteries more often.

For the wired computers I run the wire up the fork leg to the front brake cable then run it along the brake cable to the handlebars. Works great doesn't interfer with the fold.

You can see it here.

Several years.

I can't remember how long I've had the one on my speed pro and it's still good.

That's good to know it lasts several years. I didnt want to buy a $10 thing and then have to spend $5 on a battery for it every few month :-(

Many people spend more on hair-gel than they do on bike-poot batteries. Mine seem to last about 14 months.
