Winter Cycling - Trainer speed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have found that my speed is greatly diminished when using a trainer. On the road I averaged 19.8 ish last year, and on my trainer I average between 12 -13 mph.:(
Have you experienced this type of thing as well.
...and yes I know the trainer is a very different animal with many variables to consider.

Yes, I totally agree. I was averaging 16.5 outside maximum and on the indoor trainer I about kill myself to average 14 and that is an average heart rate of 165. I seem to be comfortable around the 13 mph average but I am trying to improve so I have harder and easier days. Hopefully when we hit the road we will both be a little faster.
