Texas - texas doubles?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Are there any double century events anyone is aware of in driving distance - call it 8 hours one way - of the dfw area? I'm tired of my friends doing great rides like the davis double, death valley double, etc without me.

Do you just want the miles, or does it need to be an organized double? If you just want the miles, you could stretch a 300K permanent easy enough.

Bike around the Bay (in galveston) is a 2day x 75miles each... though, I think it's supposed to get longer as routing changes are available (construction). Dunno if that'll be this year. Last October was the first one.

Maybe we should make a Texas BF Double Century, Austin to Dallas?

I already do rando rides, Creaky. I'm talking about a different style of riding here. There events are quasi races with bragging rights. The tejas 500 is an event I participated in last year, and it is likely not going to happen this year, if Dan can't find more sponsorship. All those events you listed at ultracycling are in fact the exact same event., basically.
Steve - yeah I'm talking about something organized a bit differently. doubles are usually done as a two man with support crew.
I think getting a texas double would work great for the spring or fall, but I'm sure not the man to organize one.

I might be up for a BF double in the fall if the TTT doesn't happen this year. A circuit or an out and back would not take too much to organize. I imagine lights would be required because of the shorter days of fall unless it is a speedfest.

Texas Time Trials, or the Tejas 500. www.tt24tt.org I believe. GREAT race, and the only raam qual. in the state.

There's the Hotter-n-Hell 100. Problem: lack of motel rooms. So what you do is go to Bowie, Texas, stay the night. Get up at 4:30 or 5 or so, and ride your bike the 48 miles into Wichita Falls. Ride the 100, then ride your bike back to Bowie. Might have to make a short detour or two to get it up to a full 200 miles.

I can also do a couble century from my front door, technically, but that wasn't what I was asking about.
Obviously there are none. thread over.
