I've heard over and over, that it's a good idea to use a cheap MTB with a heavy duty frame for the 5303 motor. Lots of torque. Rough on the dropouts, etc. Most cheap MTB using full uspension come with those steel rear triangles. Like the Mongoose, etc.

Well, I'm thinking of rebuilding my old Peugot steel framed road tank, into an E-bike, which I know will be strong enough.

Here's my little dilemna.

With all of the components I'm using, I doscovered that Performance Bike has the Roma and R-330 FB roadies with almost all the same bits I am using to rebuild my Peugot.

The nice part, is that it will cost me about $300 less to rebuild the Peugot vs the Scattante. But the Peugot is about 2lbs heavier steel frame and steel chrome forks.

I've seen on here some guys with stripped out dropouts and other damage from aluminum forks/frames and rear dropout mounted motors.

This leaves me with only one concern. Would using the Aluminum road frame of the Scattante be less of a good idea, because of the excessive torque from the 5303 motor?

Would sticking with rebuilding the old steel Peugot be best? It is pretty bombproof.

You will never notice the 2 lbs. The steel frame will be much easier to repair if you do have problems and you probably can get away without torque arms on the steel frame but you should use them on the aluminum frame. oops! there went your 2 lb advantage!

That's a beast motor - use a beast STEEL frame...
