Anyone got a real good route for a ride from S St. Petersburg - Pinellas trail head area out to Ft DeSoto or info on how they play the toll roads with bikes - need to mount sunpass on the bike or ???

Bikes pay no tolls in Florida. I ride through all the time solo or with groups. We don't even bother to stop, just to wave.

I assume you mean the trail head near Gibbs High? There is not a real convienient way from Us 19/34th Street down there - but if you get off the trial at where it goes through Pasedena at 1st ave south, take that to 31st street and hang a right, that will take you all the way to 54th ave south. Careful on 54th Ave south - its very fast non-bike friendly road until you get to the toll. here is link to the route

I have a way you could go on alonger more scenic ride, send me a pm if you like

I would hop on 37th street a block over from the trail head and go south to 54th ave south. Straight shot on a low speed/low traffic road. There is a bike lane for roughly half the distance from the trail to 54th ave. Even w/o a bike lane its a good road. I think its a 30 mph limit the whole way.

You can avoid the 54th ave/I275/US-19 interchange by taking 37st instead. Why negotiate past interstate on/off ramps if you don't have to. Plus crossing US19 from 54th ave puts you in the middle lane as there is a right turning lane from 19 that comes along the thru lane. In a high traffic situation, its a little hairy.
