Commuting - By the light of the Silvery moon...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I AM SO PSYCHED FOR THIS COMMUTE HOME!!!
I will be out under partly cloudy skies with an almost full moon, 10 degrees, a -3 F windchill, with the wind at my back!! Hooo Hooo! Yeah baby this is what I'm talking about, all year! Man this is got to be illegal. It is too much fun!

Is that caclulating the increased wind chill when you are cruising at 22 mph or just the wind chill from being outdoors.? It is great to feel so psyched up about something.. - "By the light of the silvery moon."- Been there, done that atop a hill, overlooking a vast valley..But when it was in the mid-60's...It is a euphoric feeling.Summery even...
I recall getting atop a high hill, watching a big red sun go down over the ocean in one direction, and the full moon come up in the east, over this big valley.... It was a tremendous rush..I was in no hurry to go home. Congratulations..

It's not illegal, yet. ;)
My buddy saw me this morning after riding in 19 F, windchill 10 F. He said, "I was getting ready to give you a load of s**t for not being a dedicated bicyclist, but now that I see you rode in today, I can't!" Well, I'm glad he's never met you, Naisme. He'd fold up his tent and go home!
The wind chill factor is from the weather at the National Weather site. I suppose I could look at my speed over all add to it the speed of the wind I rode in, and come up with a more acurate number. When it gets this cold, cold is cold is cold. When it is this cold you worry about staying warm. By the time I got home it had dropped to 6F. I just had to chuckle, it was a beautiful ride. I got to see my shadow from the moon every once and a while. The moon was really high by the time I got out under it. The lakes looked really errie with the ice sheet shimmering under the moon light.

You don't want to do that. You might not believe it yourself!

I don't know. I think I might rather sit in my car in traffic and curse the bad drivers while I listen to a DJ ramble on and on about it. "Oh, is there a traffic jam? I didn't know..."

... with an almost full moon ...
Just so you know. Tonight (http://www.pburch.net/lunarcal2003/13-wolf-2003-72.jpg) is the full moon. Interestingly enough Wolf Moon is also known as Ice Moon. I don't think we need to wonder why.

Naimse.. I know what you mean about the lakes looking errie.... One New Years' trip,we went up to Sault Ste. Marie., Mich. for New Years.. Algoncian Hotel on the Soo Locks had a big new years celebration.. New Years' Eve day went on the Snow train tour over in Ontario... Snow train took you way into the wilderness.. It got down near -40 degrees F.! Train personnel felt proud, raised inside temp.to a balmy 60...That is 100 degrees...(early morning temp. before sun came up.)
Anyway the vistas in the snow...You could not tell where the shore and lake began and ended..It was pretty cool...Recall, survivalist hikers got off train with their tents...Out in the middle of nowhere...You are to be congratulated.
I would like to think I could ride in such conditions.
Got our and did it again last night, boy was it cool. It almost seemed warm, but it wasn't. It was a chilly 8F out of the NE came the wind and it didn't feel like it was blowing at 8 miles and hour, more like 10. It was fun anyway. Still need to get out on the lakes with the Nokians and see what sort of damage I can accomplish out there.
I haven't looked, but what is the significance of an ice moon?
