so i'm doing my first long-distance tri in july and am looking to upgrade my bike. i've been riding a trek 1200 all aluminum with mix 105/tiagra set up and cage pedals.

i'm looking at a cannondale 613 at my LBS - the person i'm talking with is very knowledgeable. does anyone have thoughts on whether this is too much bike? i was originally going to try to keep under a $1500 budget, but this one is looking like $2K after pedals, shoes etc.

any advice?

Get a triathlon bike. That Cannondale is just a road bike. If you're on a $1500 budget, consider the Cervelo P2 SL, the Quintana Roo Kilo, or the Giant Trinity Alliance A2. All of these bikes will be better for you (in a triathlon) than either your Trek 1.2 or the Cannondale road bike your shop is trying to sell you.

(Note: if you've already got pedals on your Trek 1.2, you don't need to buy a second set of pedals for your new bike--just buy a pedal wrench and swap them!)
