Thinking of getting a helmet as I'll be riding my BMX to work. The Polystyrene loafs that people strap to their heads are not my style at all. I know for Dirt racing BMX helmets
(http://www.wiggle.co.uk/v2_product_detail.asp?ProdID=5360010408)
look similar to Motocross helmets so...

...would it be stoopid to just go all out and actually get a Helmet designed for Motorbikes? (http://www.bikersclothing.co.uk/products/n500v.shtml)

I'm thinking they're designed to take hella impact, I'd certainly trust it over a Poly loaf, I'm not too concerned with image (As most people look at BMX'rs as adults on kids bikes anyway.) and there isn't a big difference in cost.

Thoughts people?...

the first link IS a styrene loaf w\ plastic face guard-
I use a pro-tec inline\skate helmet- solid, more like a moter helmet-
these are made to break and absorb impact, I've always felt that the loafs are bad as they may stop the cranial injury, bit have little side protection and you will probably still have neck injuries- as the impact is not absorbed, but transfered to the neck. IMO.

motorcycle helmets are made out of the same polysteyrene loaf as bicycle helmets, but they are covered in a harder plastic shell. using a motocross helmet on a bike for commuting is probably a bad idea. its more cumbersome, heavier, and will impede your periferal vision. standard bicycle helmets are all you need at commuting speeds. if you're worried about looking dumb, then use a pro-tec, or dont wear a helmet at all.
