I am looking at a new pair of cycling shorts and I was drawn to the Pearl Izumi PRO Versa Short. I think I am leaning towards them because they don't appear overly baggy and they have a great chamois.

However, I just saw the Descente Newton shorts, and they look pretty good too.

Anyone have experience with either, or can tell me which might be more suitable for road riding? The PI shorts indicate that they would be suitable for road riding in their description, but if anyone knows definitively that would be helpful too!

Thanks in advance. I think they'll go great with the new Return of the Jedi jersey I just ordered (haha such an old dork).

Just embrace the lycra.

But if you must, those or any mtb shorts with padded chamois should be fine.

With all due respect, you're fighting the lycra too hard bro. Saw your post on the road forum. I wear baggier shorts (fox midrangers) while mtb because I just feel more comfortable that way for some reason. However, I can't imagine wearing even "not-so-baggy/baggy" shorts on the road since I got used to lycra. If you can overcome the misplaced stigma of lycra, then you will be a lot more comfortable. Trust me.

SS roadies in my neighborhood prefer Levi's 501s. I'm not sure how the chamois performs. . .

Would you wear baggy pants if you were playing on a football team? Just do the lycra.

I've used anything from lycra to TLD Moto shorts for road rides...so basically, who cares...just ride your bike.
