Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Nope. Actually I have an interview tomorrow for a summer job at Tj Maxx's. The jobs are gonna be harder to find, but they're still out there.

If you're going away to college, just dont tell em.
Otherwise, you're more apt to get hired somewhere big, like your local mc donalds' since training is a quick & slick system, and they're used to a high turnover anyway.

Sounds like you have some first hand experience with that. :p

Entreprenuer is the way to go. You don't want to work for someone else. It sucks.
Lemonade stand
Bike repair operation in the garage
Sell pics over the webs (all you need is a camera and an account with Visa)
Use your imagination.

Do you know of any jobs where I can work at? How about your company? You can put in a good word for me:thumb:

I can get you a job at the factory. There are better minimum wage jobs to be had.

I had a cousin that did a firework stand and what she made in 3 weeks was more then most college students make all summer. Also here in rural Texas snow cone stands are huge and I hear the do very well, since overhead is very low.

Factory ay? It's probably a far drive from Colleyville. I want to work at this Vitamin place down the street, but hopefully they're hiring.

When I was in college I looked for jobs that did most of their ramp up during the summer, which meant more over time. One summer I worked for MTM (http://www.mcneiluscompanies.com/Home.html), the pay was just a bit over minimum wage, but by 8am Wednesday morning we where already into overtime. We worked ourselves to death but came out like kings at the end of the summer.

In Lewisville on 121 at Main St.

I could see you working in a vitamin place. You would do well there, as you seem very concerned with nutrition, healthy choices, etc.

I say go in and apply. Just be yourself.

I probably will tomorrow, first thing in the morning. By the way, 121/main is 16 miles from me, which isn't bad at all considering I drove 22 miles each way for school. What work do you think I'd be doing? I need experience and would want to start a.s.a.p. Do you know if the hours are long?

I really do not think you would want to work at our factory. Manual labor, loading boxes of footballs, etc. Minimum wage, hot, sweaty and not very fun. I do not enjoy the days when I have to work down there doing QC or whatever. Go with the vitamin place, seriously.

Ha, to me that sounds like "Exercise, weight lifting, getting used to the heat so when I go to my college dorm, I won't complain about not having a/c" :)

I wonder if I can go into these big factory/warehouse type buildings in lower southlake and ask if they have any work for a newbie. What do you think the odds are? I wouldn't mind physical labor/lifting.

Probably pretty good. Will probably have to take a drug test, might help if you were certified to drive a fork lift, lift truck, etc.

Check the want ads for help. Stop by your church, if you go to church, and see if they have a message board there with job offers. Stock boy at grocery store, work at a nursery center (selling plants, etc)

+1 all good advice.
and entry level positions aren't too difficult to come by, so don't sweat it too much. Just be honest with them if there is an interview.

I don't know if RPS (may have been bought out Fed Ex) is still in business but they where always hiring. I'm pretty sure you could get on the loading docks there, but the work is hard as heck.

What about Discount Tire? I wonder if I could clean or help install tires, ha.

Nah. Three months is the minimum for training for most places.

Seeing that we are only in the 2nd day of summer I'd say no it's not too late :)

Most of the internship candidate selection periods are over, if that's where you're looking for work.

I suppose you could still try though.

my first job was at a grocery store. once i mentioned i was going to school in the fall the manager said "i'll just pretend you didn't say that". So don't say that. She was a nice lady though, i stocked shelves a few months then went back in the winter and following summer.
