A few years I was diagnosed with Graves Disease, a problem with the thyroid that regulates the hormone production. Too much and you are hyper, not enough and you become hypo. So the doctor put me on some meds... and I gained like 40 pounds, I got up to 248. The procedure is for the meds to convince the thyroid to stop freaking out, then stop taking the meds and see what happens. So for the last 1.5 years my disease was in remission. Today I am 210, with another 15 pounds to go.
So after a year I started dropping weight. a pound or so a week. The last two weeks I dropped 4 pounds a week. Surprised, I saw my doctor, who took a blood test. A few days later he calls and tells me to see my thyroid doc on an emergency basis. Sure enough, my T counts were really high (not like the last time- they were like 2,000 when they shouldn't be more than 180) today they were almost 400. So back on the meds I go... and again I will see weight gain... :( Hopefully with the biking it won't get too bad. It just makes me tired.
So here I will stay...

Even if you HAD dropped into emeritus status, you'd still have a home here. ;) Perhaps the dosage will be lower though. Less effect, if you know what I mean. Good luck with the Doc!

You never leave the Clydes, so to speak...you always provide faith and inspiration. Being a Clyde or Athena is about being a human and striving to improve and grow each day and in that sense weight is not the entire point. We all share the struggles and so we are here.
Be as well as you can and I am pulling for you.
are there other options beside meds?
