Anyone been around Canada Rd to Woodside today? How was the air, smokey?
Some co-workers and I are planning on meeting there this evening at 5:30 for a ride, anyone care to join in?

Ooooh I don't think I'd make it on time today Henry. But if you want to make it a more regular thing, that would be cool!

I rode from SF to PA this morning and it's smokey out there. Not as bad as when the Eureka Canyon fire was burning, but my lungs feel worse than my legs which is atypical.

iirc, If you wait till 6pm you can get with the PV ride that goes the reverse route of the Sat & Sun v ersions. Non-no-drop though.

where are you headed? I am headed home to SF and could be talked into sitting in and maybe even taking a pull, but if you are going to PV that's the wrong way for me...

Murph. I routinely commute from Downtown SJ (work) to San Mateo (home).
I go Central Expy (Alma for a block) -> Charleston/Arastradero -> Foothill Expy -> Alameda de las Pulgas -> Home.
Maybe we'll run into each other one of these times.

typically I take Central to Mary to Fremont to Foothill to Sand Hill to Canada to Skyline until I get sick of it and ride down to a train station, as early as, well... Sunnyvale :)

I think the guys are planning 5:30 every Thursday. You'd fit right in. I went with them last week was challenged (though I'm also blaming it on lack of lunch). A couple of them did OLH in 20-22minutes (total 5 guys including me) and a couple were slower. I'm hoping with lunch I'll keep up better today. (With the smoke, I have a backup excuse for getting shelled again if needed :D)

They planned route is Canada/92 > woodside > mtn home > OLH > 84 > Portola Valley > Alpine > Foothill > Sandhill > Whiskey Hill > return. I think.

The earliest I can usually make it home from work is 5:25. So the earliest I could get to Canada/92 is like 6 pm. :(

sounds like you need to go straight from work to the ride...

Well, we did the Canada/OLH/84/Portola Valley out and back. Jason, Ryan, and
Peter (angliru05) from my work showed up and we headed out (two others bailed).
Ryan rode to the start from home so he was already warmed up and turned up the
pace right away. Peter who is fairly new to road cycling got dropped fairly early on.
(Sorry Peter hopefully you did the out and back to Roberts like you planned to do.)
The air didn't bother me (that I could tell) but it seemed to bother Jason just a bit,
not enough to keep him from putting on the hurt though. Due to the air quality, we
decide to "take it easy" up OLH.... by that didn't stop Ryan from hitting a PR (23:09)...
Jason was at the top waiting to greet him . I, on the other hand, straggled up...
I'm still getting used to the shorter cranks, yeah, that's the ticket.
We came back down 84 and did a Portola Valley to Alpine out and back. Along PV, we
got a change to practice a three person rotation, fun! Then onto Mtn Home and back
to Canada/92. Overall the pace was high but comfortable and interspersed with sprints :thumb:.
Small World Tidbit
Mateo (pelikan), you know Ryan apparently you two moto-x in a previously life.
Ryan was also the rider on Saturday's Pen Velo ride who was able to avoid the
dropped bottle and heard the guy behind him go down.
The There's Hope For Us All Tidbit
Ryan has only been riding for three months and he's already fast.
He's also lost 40lbs in those 3 months. Way to go!

One more tidbit.
On the way up OLH, we passed a family climbing up, mom, two little girls on 20" bikes w/ gears, and dad pulling a trail-a-bike. Those little girls couldn't have been older and 6-8 y.o. Very cool.

'Nother small world tidbit: I'm pretty sure one of the guys who must've bailed was my brother! He did this ride last week. He works for Gap in San Bruno.
He invited me to the ride the past two weeks but I had obligations both times. I definitely would like to join in one of these days if this turns into a regular ride though.

You must be Aaron's brother. Aaron and I have been riding together for the last couple months. He tells me you can throw down the gauntlet on the hill climbs. Hope you can make it out with us one of these days.

Hey, glad you joined. There's a great bunch of guys on here.
Sure you don't want to do the Giro on Saturday?

Thanks for the invite but I am going to have to decline. I am not there yet. I still need conditioning.
Also, thanks for doing the write up on our ride and to those that are asking if this is a regular ride...it has been for about 1.5 months now. We hope to continue it until we can't anymore because of the dark.
