The swelling has gone down. The folks say his leg was twice that size before he went to the vet.

what kind of snake was it
It happened in the yard, I didn't see the snake, but I'd guess a copperhead.

Sorry he got bit. Dogs are tough though. He'll be fine before you know it.
My MIL's neighbor has a blue tick hound that is the most hyper and uber freindly dog that has ever existed. Unfortunately it may be the dumbest dog that has ever lived. There's a creek behind their house in lower alabama, which of course means copperheads and water moccasins a plenty. The dog has been bitten at least 6 times. You'd think it would learn that snakes = pain. But not this dog. It thinks "hey, something moving, lets check it out. Wonder if it wants to play?"

The look on his face is priceless. He has the touch of a maestro, hasn't he :p ?

There is a running debate over who is more wrinkly, Norman or my folks.
Norman looks like a mastiff? He'll be up and back to his normal self before long.

Half boxer, half shar pei, all attention hound. Super sweet dog.

Sorry he got bit. Looks like he is starting to work it though. It reminds me of a funny story.
I went duck hunting with a friend and his dog a few years ago. We had to break a thin sheet of ice to get to the blind. Somehow the dog got snake bit. We thought the dog was going to die. Its leg was 2 or 3 times its normal size. My friend ran back to get the truck and I had to carry the 2 guns, 12 decoys, and the 50lb black lab while wearing chest waders for just under a mile. The vet said he has never known of a dog to die of a snake bite. Sadie was a 3yr old black lab and that was her first and last duck hunting trip.

He's totally milking it. You aren't going to let him get away with that, are you????:notamused:
No snake bite - but I got stung by a wasp/bee something last summer & my hand swelled up. It was really gross & totally creeped out one of the guys we were camping with.

Looks as though the pooch had a lucky outcome with the copperhead. From what you've written and what the photos show Norm will be fine.
Years ago when I lived in the country my dog had a great kennel outside where she'd stay while I was at work. Every spring I'd usually find half a baby snake wriggling on the floor when I got home. These were only black snakes though.

^^Still a bit swollen huh...but it looks much better! He's still making the sad eyes at you?
He's been doing his Raymond Burr impersonation today.
Here he is saying, "Look, it's going to be easier on the both of us if you just go ahead and wrap that pill in a piece of cheese."

Thought the thread was about Greg Norman getting bitten on a golf course... or getting hitched to Chris Evert.
Handsome dog.
