Winter Cycling - My Homemade winter attire!!

Hey everyone! I'm going out on Sunday to a hill close to home...It's been very cold here in Chile(we're still on winter)...And considering the fact that I was broke,I decided to make my Own winter attire..
So,I started with a fleece Balaklava,something that I really needed...I am soo happy,I never thought it would actually work,since I'm just starting to learn how to use the sewing machine:thumb:..
I added more fabric to put inside the neck and protect the chest from this cold as well.
But it did.I'm pretty proud of it.I'm actually going to make another one,but with fabric to cover the nose and mouth..that way I'll be able to choose depending on the weather..and I will make more with cuter fabrics,but those ones will be just to go out in cold weather without my bike.
I'll post more pics as I make more things..

Note:I erased my face because I looked terrible,as you can see I'm in my PJ's and there's not a lot of facial dignity there.:innocent:

Looks nice, but you'll have to be careful not to zip your hair in the zipper! Well done!

That's funny, erasing the face. I should have
thought of that, it might have improved a lot
of my pictures, or at least save me the time
it took to comb my hair. I might try it out
with my next passport picture.

I ride a lot in winter too, way up here by the
arctic circle (Canada), but I've never worn
anything over my nose and mouth. Seems like
my face just got used to the temp. I guess it
might be warmer, but also more damp from the
breathing. There definitely are times when the
face is cold enough to be a bit unpleasant so
I'm not saying it wouldn't be a good idea for
anyone else. The little sig site article is mostly
about winter biking.

If you make something to cover part of the face, use some perforated material instead of solid cloth. You will need some way to let your breath through.

The Seirus fleece and neoprene face mask/neck warmer that I use in winter does a great job and it has a pattern of small holes punched through the neoprene material backed with fleece that covers the mouth. For the nose, it's just open on the bottom. Look closely at the mouth area of the picture.

This works much better than a balaclava that I have with a sort of mesh material over the nose and mouth. The mesh doesn't let through enough air and it tends to get covered on the inside with condensation that sometimes freezes.
