Hello, I am brand new to the forums. I've recently been become interested in folding bikes because I need a bike for school and I like the concept of having a folding bike. I'm looking for something affordable but reliable. I came across this listing on craigslist and asked a the seller a few questions but all he gave me was, "I think it's probably 5-10 years old and has not been used much. I don't know the model but its a 3 speed." I just want to try and find a name to see how old this bike is because I'm a total newb with folders. I found a Dahon Classic III at a local shop yesterday but I've been reading around these forums and I've been seeing it cost more to maintain it and what not so I don't think I'll be getting it. Was also thinking about a Dahon Boardwalk but although I'll be using this mainly for school, I still want to have a joy ride every now and then. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

I personally donot like the older ones as I find the steering loose. I would go with the Boardwalk. If it is a three speed check the rear hub if it is a Sturmey Archer and it will show the month in numbers and year just the last two digits. Welcome to the folder world. Check out Downtube bikes there is a sale on the 8HN it has an internal 8 speed hub and it is a light folder. I just ordered one and I am looking forward to it. By the way the closet Dahon with a 7 speed internal gear hub starts at $659

Looks like a classic Dahon. I have been riding mine to work for the past year. Did some upgrades, but I really like mine for what I use it for. Have not taken mine great distances, but hope to at some point.
