Road Cycling - Vbrakes/cantis/caliper pros and cons

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Whats your favourite in terms of reliability, efficiency
endurance ?
I feel that the calipers just don't do their job properly.
Vbrakes seem to me like the best in all terms.
I've never tested the cantis what do you think about them ?

No question about what's the prettiest(caliper)
and the ugliest(cantis).

(I would have posted a poll here if only I knew how.)

On what kind of bike? On a road frame, only a cyclocross our tourer will have the bosses for cantis or v-brakes, so if you have a standard road frame, calipes are your only choice. That being said, there is a wide variety of brake pads available, the best of which, in my opinion, is the KoolStop dual compound. A lot depends on riding style, terrain, weather, etc. The only right answer, I guess, is: depends.

Keep in mind the difference in braking needs - precise braking is integral to good MTB riding, whereas on a road bike, the brakes are rarely used.
