this is part rant and part warning.

last night after getting home from the "Y" i found that my dog had ate the gel that partially makes up my CPAP mask. I mean there was very little left. I was very pissed off to say the least.

i do not believe in hitting dogs as a punishment but i screamed and yelled at her something fierce. and she knows what she did wrong. because when i went to grab her harness and walk her over to where what was left of the mask was at she did the classic front lwgs and paws out in front of her to prevent me from walking her. i got her over there any way. and screamed an yelled NO!!! BAD GIRL!!! YOU KNOW BETTER!!! THIS IS NOT ONE OF YOUR TOYS!!! then i sent out of the bed room and told her to stay out of my site for a while.

after i calmed down i started calling around to find a new one just to use for the night. I managed to get ahold of the sleep lab at one of the hospitals and they graciously gave me a new one at no cost. and these things are not cheap. $180.00 for the one i use.

i can only venture to guess what attracted her to the gel. it coulsd be that to a dog it smells sweet. a dog's nose is over 200 million times more sensative then ours. my dog prefere's soft toys versus the hard material ones. maybe she thought it was a new toy. its hard to say.

from now on starting this morning i'm putting the mask and the hose in the carrying case so she can't get at it.

but for those of you aho use a CPAP and have the gel mask, mine is called a profile lite by resperonics, or those of you with gel gloves or saddles you may want to make sure your dog can not get to them as they may do what mine did.

It may have smelled like you and she must have missed you.

For no reason what so ever, every so often my dog will eat something of mine, just because.

Maybe your dog has sleep apnea and was just trying to get some quality sleep.

hey N_C is the dog ok?
not that I thought that you beat her or anything, I'm just wondering if that gel stuff is toxic/semi toxic?
you might want to call vet about it.

An instrument of torture, but it lets sleep apnea sufferers sleep through the night. They fit over your face and provide positive pressure to the airways to help keep them open. They can be very claustrophobic and look somewhat like a gas mask or some medieval armor. If you can tolerate them, they can let people sleep soundly through the night.

Don't be so sure about that, I can't use a gelled mask cause I seem to be allergic to it. The doc said it was unusual but a few people are unable to use certain kinds of masks cause of that.

N_C, my brother had really bad apnea, and as far as I know he doesn't need a CPAP thingy. He went to a sleep clinic about it, I'm not sure what they did or if it helped, but I haven't heard him mention it since, maybe they cured it (I used to have attacks every so often but I guess I've grown out of it).

I'm sure you know more about it then I do, I'm just saying maybe you don't NEED a CPAP, re your other thread about touring.
