The light at the T intersection was turning yellow. I turned on the juice, but I was tired, and misjudged, and I ran the red on my bike. Lo, and behold, a police cruiser was parked 100 yards down the road, scanning for speeders and such.
I didn't look at him as I passed. I heard his loudspeaker start. "18 mph," he said. I looked at him, and he was waving.
:D
(I'm not sure if he noticed I missed that light... :p)
LOL,
I had a time riding down Rock creek parkway in DC once. It is 25mph and there was a big speed trap with at least 6 cops pulling people over like crazy. I passed it doing 27 and they didn't even bother to gun me.

Was the speed gun correct?

I ride "The Dragon" - US 129 through the Great Smokies. Lots of police presence, 35 mph limit on most of it. No matter what I do, they ignore me. They'll pull over a moto for complete nothing, but don't care about excess speed, reckless driving, ignoring road markings, and general disregard for authority from cyclists. Funny! They don't even yell out my speed, which would be fun since I don't have a speedometer. I know I go faster than 35.

There's a speed marker on US 17 near Sky Meadows state park in VA - it's funny to see the cars register 45-50 MPH, then to have me register "17" as I slowly go by....

I past radar on the way home a couple times, the cops (both days) said 20mph, same as my speedo.
pretty cool having them do that.

On the way to work at my last location, the police would set up on of those "robot" radar setups, showing you your speed in an effort to guilt the speeders in a residential area. Trouble was, I never was able to activate the thing -- it wasn't the "too slow" speed, either, because a car going just barely faster than me set it off once.
I guess you had to be...bigger...to be an issue in that neighborhood.

You are insane to be riding The Gap. Too many yahoos out there on motorcycles doing too many dangerous moves on that particular road, with no regard for the law. Not to mention tractor trailers that take up both lanes through blind turns when they make the mistake of attempting that stretch of road. Scary stuff. Has Law Enforcement been cracking down on motorcyclists out there lately? Because the few times I've been through there, LEO presence was non-existent. There's pictures in the store on the southern side showing cop cars down ravines from trying to catch moto scofflaws...
That said, I bet it's a total blast going through all those corners on a bicycle.

 No idea, I don't have a computer on this bike, but it was probably accurate. :)
The post about the speed monitor showing fast speeds for everyone else and then under 20 mph. for the cyclist about sums it up for me. ;)
Another post about not registering cycling speeds holds accurate as well... :p

We used to ride up there years ago, and it was a blast. The speed limit was 55 mph, so getting a speeding ticket was pretty difficult, even on a motorcycle. But I quit going years ago. It wasn't any fun dodging the idiot bikers and redneck sheriffs. They were everywhere.
There are other stretches of road up near there that are just as good and not nearly as famous.

Don't worry, just be sure to wear your aluminum foil hat and no radiation can get through. Also repels "mind rays" from extraterrestial aliens and the CIA.

I had this once when they set up such a system in a playground zone. Only thing, it was on a significant uphill, i couldn't get it to say anything higher than 14 kilometers per hour. :(

Whenever I start feeling slow, or when some hotrod Mustang guns it to pass lil ol' me, I just can't help but remember how much more physical power it takes for me to get from A to B. :D
I wouldn't trade places for anything.
