Wow, I got back from my morning bike ride and wanted to thank everyone for the great advise about doing distance rides. I know that it is not the distance that many of you are doing, but it was good start to gauge what kind of shape I'm in. Todays ride was a little over half rolling hills and the other half was pretty flat or small inclines or dips. I did it all on my old Giant mountain bike with knobbys. Here are the stats for the ride.
Total time: 2 hours 11 minutes
Total miles:30.36
Average speed: 13.8 mph
Top speed 37.1 mph
I could feel the effects from my spinning class a couple of days ago on a few of the bigger hills. I also was a little short on sleep, so I felt pretty good considering those facts. I originally planned to ride a 40 miler on Aug . 10 on one of the local club rides. Now, I may try to push myself in doing to metric century given the fact that I will have a road bike and still have some time to train to get ready. It may be a lofty goal at this point, but I want to try. Plus, can always ride the 40 if I feel that I am not in good enough shape.
