Touring - Hostelling

The first traveler’s hostel I went to was when I was twenty while on a 41/2-month trip through Europe. I still like to stay at them on occasion while traveling, but only at the more special ones. Some of the more interesting ones I stayed at in the past twenty years include: Tamerasat, Algeria located at centre of the Sahara – Taormina, Sicily wonderful view overlooking the Mediterranean - Isle of Unst Shetland Islands for it’s library, view of the North Sea, no warden and the desolation. - Pensión Mesa, Guatemala City to hard to describe - Salt Springs Island, British Columbia- located in the centre of a rainforest – one on the Pennine Way, England as the warden was a chef and made the most delicious vegetarian food! Lisbon, Portugal super friendly atmosphere Yeah and a few crazy ones in Amsterdam.
Anyway, I’m just dreaming about traveling. :)

I usually stay at hostels myself. Some have been holes, and others have been a pleasure to stay at. I think the best hostel I ever stayed at was the one in Stockholm- the one on the harbor with the boat. The first night, my friend and I stayed in the boat, and it was the last night the boat would be open before they closed it for the winter. It was so cold in that boat that I could see my breath! The next night, we all moved into the hostel, and it was nice- semiprivate rooms with two sets of bunk beds and a sink, plus lockers. Then for breakfast, the food was so good- when they said buffet, they weren't kidding! They had just about everything imaginable for breakfast, and we filled up for the entire day on that breakfast. I'll never forget how good that stay was.

Our hostel here in Chicago is ok- 6- 10 per room, and the front of the room has the sink and a separate toliet and shower area, so it's harder to wake someone up if you have to leave early. The only bad part is the price- $37.50 for non-members, and I'm hard pressed to tell someone that's it's a good deal, when there are other hostels much cheaper, albeit not in downtown like Hostelling International.

I'm getting the travel bug myself these days. Especially someplace warmer.
