I intend to buy a cyclocross bike to use for commuting and long audax rides / light touring. Probably salsa la cruz frameset. I like the relaxed seat angle of cross bikes.
Now I have 2 other bikes both with avid disc brakes. If I were to use 26 inch wheels on this bike, I have a few sets of wheels to share between the different bikes - big plus - plus I would not have to buy another set of wheels, tires, tubes etc. With discs the size of the rims is not such an issue as with cantis.
I know this means that the BB will be lower by about 1.25", but still higher than a road bike's BB. It will also make the bike a little more twichy due ot the smaller wheels, but because I will use a fairly long stem, this is probably something I would welcome.
The potential for a decrease in rolling resistance of 26" wheels is also not an issue for me.
Would this work (well)? I do not intend to race ever. Thanks in advance for any advice.
