I bought this PlanetBike superflash blinky and realized the mounting accessories it came with only fits a seatpost up to 31mm diameter - I guess it would work on most other bikes. However the Dahon seatpost is 34mm. I have been going to several LBS to see if they have a 34mm-ish clamp (mount) that I can use. So far no luck. I like the blinky and want it mounted. My Sigma Cuberider is the only taillight with mount flexibility, but it is not as bright as the Planetbike superflash. It seems most taillights on the market come with mounting tools that fit slimmer seatpost. I wonder how do the rest of us Dahon owners deal with this. Thanks!

I would also like an answer to this. I have visited a couple of bike shops, and gone through all their mounting hardware to no avail. Even emailed Planet Bike........who said there is currently no manufactured solution. So, anyone got a good kludge??

I have some new Sigma micros on order, and I am interested if they will fit ... the old still available cube rider works ...

My Speed P8 came with a seatpost mounted reflector (not light) by the manufacturer Dahon, so I was able to replace the reflector with a PlanetBike blinky using the clamp that came w/ the reflector.

But my Speed D7 didn't come w/ pre-installed seapost reflector. So I have to look for one. Now I know why ppl complain about Dahon having too many proprietary components that makes after-market upgrade difficult.

I am going to email Dahon to see if they have any spare parts.

Here's some ideas:
Peter White Cycles has lots of mounting brackets (http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/light-mounts.asp). You might be able to adapt one of these.

This NobXL (http://www.glorycycles.com/crnobxlcomo.html) might work too.

I've had good success with BLT (http://www.blt-lights.com/product/) lights...
e.g. Rear Super Doppler DX and Wazoo DX

I believe that the plastic clamps were flexible enough to fit the post, and then I just put a fat rubber washer in between the arms before I put the screw back in place. You can get those sort of washers dime a dozen at any hardware store... I think plumbing.

I used a longer screw/nut I had from a box of these I got from a hardware store long ago. I am not sure if you can buy a single screw/nut, may need to get a small box of them.

will definitely try a long long screw first.

here's the response I got from Dahon. Doesn't make any sense but at least you know you don't have to bother w/ them.

"The Dahon Spanninga taillight is designed to fit on the reflector bracket of our rear racks. We do not make a bracket for the seat post, as the seat post pushes down to support the bike when folded."

You can get some velcro straps at Lowes and just wrap them around your seatpost (or where ever else you want).

when I first saw the post I thought it was about mounting a bikinni. on the seat post.. thinking YES!

Lovely. When you're finished you can fix your blinky.

Joking aside I would suggest you go to a plumbing supply shop and pick up some 'O' rings - they come in a range of sizes and cost pennies. Get two of a suitable size and feed one through the other and back on itself as in a slip knot. This leaves you with two looped ends which can be clipped together for easy fitting and removal. Velcro would be easiest but not good for storing when wet.
