Great Lakes - Does anyone know if these two connect.

I'm new to touring - and especially to planning - and just discovered the Grand Illinois Trail (GIT). I'm familiar with the Madison County Trails in southern IL, etc., and I was wondering if anyone has connected the two in some fashion.

There's not a trail connecting the two if that's your question. There are two bike routes however that you could use to get from the Madison County area up to the GIT. The Mississippi River Trail (http://www.bikelib.org/mrt/index.htm) and the Route 66 Trail (http://www.bikelib.org/route66/index.htm) both would connect to the GIT. An interesting ride would be the Route 66 trail to the I&M Canal (part of the GIT) then basically ride the GIT to the Quad Cities, then back down the Mississippi River Trail to Madison County. That portion of the GIT is the I&M Canal and the Hennepin Canal Path with just a little road in the middle.
