Well, in my search to find a folding bike I like (and want to afford), I came upon a GREAT deal on a new Boardwalk D7. So far, I like it a lot, but am still fine-tuning all the issues. Can anyone offer any input on whether or not this bike can be effectively folded and packed in a suitcase for a flight? I am traveling to Minneaopolis in 6 weeks, and I have heard the city is a great place to see on a Bicycle. If possible, i would love to carry my own bike. Any comments would be appreciated.

FYI Boardwalk D7's were discontinued several years ago. Hence the lower price.
Yes, it can be packed. You'll have to do a fair amount of disassembly: iirc both wheels and the handlebar have to be removed. You will also have to put it in a suitcase. Keep in mind that anything over 50 lbs and you will get charged for overweight fees.

Bacciagalupe,
Thanks for the reply. Actually, according to Dahon, they do continue to make the Boardwalk D7 (in fact, i think it is actively sold internationally), but it is solely distributed by Camping World, which is where I saw it and purchased it. Apparently, it has the same component group as the Speed D7. I camp quite a lot with my family in a 5th wheel, and this bike seems a perfect fit to take along. I plan on taking a trip to Minneapolis in several weeks, and wondered if this bike could be easily packed. Oh well, may have to think of another option ...

Yes, the Boardwalk D7 is still sold internationally. I bought one in China just this year, and the people at the bike shop told me it's one of their most popular models.
Here's what mine looks like:

It's a great bike.
Looks remarkably like a Speed D7.

'Cause it is.
The Boardwalk on the CW site is listed as the D7, but the photo is of the single speed.
If the budget is limited to $300.00, I'd go for a Downtube. You'd need a tool set to get the Boardwalk in a suitcase and it would be a very heavy suitcase.

I guess the Speed 7 is sold as a Boardwalk here in China. But people have said that Dahon's Chinese model line-up is different from the rest of the world's, so it's not surprising. :p
